Topic: Why is Krystal a very common flash character to use

Posted under General

I mean her character model from Starfox is used more frequently than others any reason for this? Just a curious question, is there a preload set of files which make the character model already made to save production time vs drawing/animating a new character model?

She's popular and they're lazy and/or incompetent. An all too familiar combination.

here's the answer right here, she's real popular

I don't know anything specific about Krystal in flash, but she's one of the "original" furry characters that reached mass appeal as far as I can tell.

There's Krystal, Renamon, and I don't know what else. The characters from the sonic_(series) have art as old as Krystal's with comparable volume, but I always saw them as having niche appeal even within the furry community. Lucario could be Pokemon's answer to Renamon, but Lucario is not regarded as an individual across art and artists like Renamon usually is (i.e., "she's the Renamon" from the shows, usually with the same personality). There's also lola_bunny, characters from balto_(film), and maid_marian, but none of them seem to have enjoyed the same success and continued relevance as have Krystal and Renamon. bagi didn't even catch on.

I think I've read the sentiment "I got into furry art/porn because of..." followed by dr_comet the most. And what did Herr Doktor draw? Krystal porn as early as 2002 that still kind of holds up today. I believe Dr. Comet's Krystal porn has been seminal to Krystal's continued popularity. Krystal's a materfamilias, a pillar of furry art porn.

I'm sure there's much academic literature on why things become popular, but I don't speculate on what those predictors may be or why Krystal has such staying power. Obviously, already being popular and having the mass produced, "10/10 body type" helps.

I thought the main reason was that the models/files were released to the public, so anyone with a toaster PC and a boner for bad games had all the tools needed to make shitty Krystal animations.

I'm envious people remembering how they started.
All i remember I visited this site once, by accident, then left it for quite a while (I wasn't searching for furry porn then) then I stumbled upon it once again and stayed.
But besides that i don't remember anything.

I really think this is it. Even though Star Fox Adventures moved just under 2 million units worldwide, which is respectable for any title based around anthropomorphic characters, this was still nothing compared to the exposure that Disney, Warner Brothers, Sonic, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon characters enjoyed. Really, we could almost be discussing Carmelita Fox in terms of sales figures. I don't think it was just a "Star Fox" thing, either, because Fara Phoenix never really took off despite being a prominently featured character in the Nintendo Power comic, and Star Fox fans generally viewed Adventures (which introduced Krystal mostly as a damsel-in-distress) more negatively than the critical reviews did. With the official release of Star Fox 2, there's been some other Star Fox characters that have popped up, but they haven't really gone viral the way Krystal did.

Dr. Comet did a series of very good Krystal images for CD 4, right around where I figure his relevance in the furry community was at its high point, and these absolutely went viral. Comet Krystal recolors are pretty much a meme.

There was also some very good work done by Sindoll at the time, different in style but still very good even by today's standards. Even though Sindoll is known more as a Renamon artist, today, they had more Krystal work back then.

Then A Blue Deer came along, exploding onto the scene with some good work, and wouldn't you know what character they drew first.

Sometime around or shortly after that, also, a Flash cartoonist named Playshapes was hitting their peak, and started - but never completed - a couple of fairly well-animated Flash games starring Krystal (they had made their name with incomplete Flash games featuring Mario and other Nintendo characters). They subsequently released the assets to the public, and the folks started cranking out Krystal flashes from those assets. (Some of these are still available on the Legend of Krystal forums, though the community there seemed pretty much done producing and/or defunct when I last checked.)

So I think it was really just kind of an idealized situation where prominent, highly skilled artists took an interest in her at about the same time, or in short succession.

Ms. Pacman is still the original sex symbol. Pop in a quarter and she'll swallow balls until she dies.

Found that on urban dictionary but it's obscure enough I'll give you full credit

She's popular, there's probably a ton of models of her, and apparently no one's turned off by her grossly rendered hairstyle (both in game and for models).
