Topic: Need Help! anyone with a yahoo mail account please reply!

Posted under Off Topic

So I have three passwords that are insanely complex that I can actually remember.
About a year ago Yahoo asked me to upgrade my security, so I used one of them. Now keep in mind I have 6 passwords, 3 are weak (like for non sensitive stuff) and three are fort Knox strenght.
I had to request a new password several months after because I had forgotten which of the three I used. BIG MISTAKE! apparently once you use a password and then change it, said password becomes blocked. Meaning you get a message saying "password can not be used due to being used in the past".

Anyway long story short I used all three complex pass's and now I'm using one I will never be able to remember later.

So I looked for an email link to Yahoo support, they don't have one! They have a toll free number which shunts you to India with someone who has no idea what your tlking about and just spews nonsense about how to click password reset and reasons why its not working, such as and get this, your not typing it in correctly or using invalid characters in the password itself. Fucking idiots.

When they cant seem to help you, what do they do? They send a phone number that is not toll free, will make you wait 6 hours and then talk to another idiot in India and has no idea what your talking about and you can bairly understand them this time!?! WTF!

I swear when I finally found a email link and sent it on its merry way, I never expected THIS!
anyone else think these are email bots? For one each email sender was differently named.

email 1 and my reply

That, isn't what I need help with. I have access to the email in question, however I have had to use a password that I will not be able to remember later. I wish to change the password back to one of the ones I use normally and can remember, however the system says it will not allow it because it is one I have used in the past. I changed it the first time because Yahoo demanded I upgrage to a more secure password, then I had to request a new one later because I had forgotten which password I had chosen, I have like 6 diffrent ones I use. However now that I have access again when I try to set it back to one I can remember it wount let me. I am hoping support can set it to one I can use, or reset it so I can put my old password back. I will likely forget the current one within a few weeks.

>the issue isn't about someone sealing my old passwords, rather me forgetting one clean passwoerd getting a new one in order to gain acres to the account in order to change it back to said clean password. The passord system will not allow any passwords used in the pas to be reused.. which I need my clean password I lost back, or the system set up so I can add it back myself. The password in question is clean, meaning no hackers, virus's, keylogers have messed withnit. I changed it because I was a new passward at the time and I forgot it. I got the new password, am able to log in, but will probably forget new password after a week or two. I tried to reset the password to one that worked before but its blocked saying "password not usable due to being toosimiler to past password" -—esme.belles > >Discussion Thread >--------------------------------------------------------------->Response Via Email(Sophia) - 07/20/2014 03:05 AM >Hi, > >Thanks for getting back to us. > >For your protection, we strongly recommend against using a password that you have previously used with your Yahoo account, or on other services on the web. email 3 and reply

I have sent the information, both just now and when I made the request. am I talking to a bot, or a real flesh and blood person? Each of the emails ive received back has someone else's name on it.

I am not trying to reset the password, I need the password SYSTEM for my Yahoo account reset. I need to use an old password that I had to change that the system will not allow me to change it back to because of the fact I used it in the past and changed it.

For example the password right now is (and yes these are fictional.) Axxxay/a1 and I'm trying to set it to axxxay/b6 but I used B6 2 years ago so the system will not allow me to use either A1 or B6 or any of the passwords I have used in the past when I try to change the password.

I only have 3 complex passwords that I can use AND remember. All three have been used in Yahoo, thus the system will not allow me to re-use them, and that is a problem since I changed them because I had forgotten which one I used and now can not set them back.

-_-_-

Why in the wild world of sports would you use Yahoo? That and Hotmail, I would never recommend to use. Gmail is pretty much the standard these days, but there are other alternatives as well.

As for their response, e-commerce sites are now run off of scripts and it is largely successful. However, what the companies don't realize in their test markets, is that the employees knew when to use a script and when to use their own words. They outsource them, and tell them to either use the script or escalate... and they deter escalation.

As for password security, I recommend Passpack.

Hi ,

Thanks for getting back to us. I want to apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. I assure you that I will do everything I can to help resolve your issue.

These minimum requirements will help you create a password that's more resistant to hacking:

8 to 32 characters long.

Cannot contain your first or last name.

Cannot contain your Yahoo ID.

Cannot be too similar to old passwords used on this account before.

These requirements cannot be bypassed.

Not sure if your password is strong enough? Start typing your new password. A message below the password field will tell you if your password is weak, moderate, or strong. A colored strength indicator bar will change from red to green when your password meets the minimum requirements.

Using a public computer? We recommend hiding your password by unchecking the "show" option.

Want to make your password even stronger? Review more password tips and best practices to help protect yourself online.

If you have any further concerns regarding this issue , please let us know and I will be happy to assist you.

Regards,

Logan

What that email says, along with a bunch of extra information that you don't need, is that they can't remove the password re-use restriction.
It's built into the system, and it's not possible to make an exemption for individuals.

Basically, you're stuck with it.

My suggestion, make a text file with your passwords, encrypt it with a password, now you only have to remember one password.
It's also more resistant to key loggers, since you can copy/paste from your text file, doesn't avoid all key logging since some copy your clipboard that copy/paste uses, but not all of them do.

Makes a file containing your passwords and you use a master password to access it. Simple fix for a simple problem.

problem with all this guys is that I go through computers like rent money, any master file I make will get lost, any site containing my passwords, may get forgotten. I have severe memory issues... not kidding, and this is just royally pissing me off (not you guys, its yahoo's fault atm)

I sent a reply to, yon script kiddy yaboo support. if its the same ol shit im done with yahoo.

that is incredibly stupid, since if it happens to be someone like me who happened to forget which of the multiple passwords they used for that account has to reset the password, it pretty much discriminates against someone with memory trouble...

Passpack uses a two step authentication, your password and a keyphrase (basically a sentence).

You could create the account, write the account name of a piece of paper (including a link to the site) use one of the three passwords you remember and then use another of the three passwords as a keyphrase (or a sentence you can remember and type in quickly, like a verse from a song you like or something).

If you have memory issues then this is something your should really do before it gets worse, which is more often the case than it getting better.

Also, passpack offers a personalized "welcome message" that you can use to remind you of your keyphrase.

Put the database.kdb file on a flashdrive or external HD, use an easy master password to open it. Take it with you everywhere. I keep my master pass in a text file which is on an external in case my laptop takes a shit. Again, simple fix.

I have a key on my cloud storage (SpiderOak, used to be DropBox) so that no matter what computer I was at, I could access my information. Required, given my job.

You have to pay to get the decent Outlook, and its biggest benefit is filtering out most of the spam that Hotmail sends its users. It's decent for a work environment, but locally host your domain server for stability.

Call me old-fashioned but I just write all my passwords in a memo book I keep on me all the time (along with my wallet, keys, multi-tool, blah blah.)

Also eliminates key logging and other shady things happening under your nose (should you be infected, that is. Unless we all already have the NSA's camp set up on our comps.)

Best of luck Esme.

finally got a decent straight answer. and you guys where right. due to the system setup, they have no control over it. -_- youd think the support staff would be able to override or insert the password FOR you.. but nope.

Hi ,

Thanks for getting back to us.

I do want to apologize for all the confusion and miscommunication. I regret to inform you that we have no way for you to be able to create your password to the one you have previously had. The system does not allow this to occur for security reasons. There is no option we have to override this message. We appreciate you reaching out to us and I apologize once again for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We're looking forward to your reply, .

Debbie

Also eliminates key logging

No, it doesn't.

Key logging is either done physically (recording key strokes with a device between keyboard and usb plug and then filtering for strange sequences), per software locally (recording the key strokes from the keyboard into a file and then doing the same) or by scanning the clipboard (in case of copy/paste), or by having packet sniffers for unsecured transmissions over LAN/WAN.

As long as you type the password in through a keyboard it can be logged in the traditional sense. If you mean people can't gain access to the database when you're a bit closer, but even then it's quite possible that anybody who really wants it can gain access to your notes.

I'm 99% sure I don't have a long-standing foe or FBI agent rigging my shit up. But I forgot the bit about actually entering in the password, which I guess software keyloggers would still be able to record a virtual keyboard. I'm not sure.
