Topic: Zonkpunch retiring

Posted under General

Pretty much everything is already uploaded here outside WIP and source files. Of course if zonk gives us OK with posting WIP that's more than welcome in cases it offers value on their own (meaning early sketches, not nearly finished animation snippets)

I think there are 4K videos, but we do have 100 MB filesize limit (used to be 50 MB when they started posting here), so those would turn into porridge after conversion and would have playback issues with many users considering they are also high frame rate. With earlier flash stuff pretty sure it would be possible for users to render the animations out with much higher quality and frame rate from source files though.

With all due respect I have to wonder though, will he come back as an artist once his grandmother eventually passes away? After his grieving period, of course.

He may, or he may not. Only time will tell.

It's also possible that he'll come back before. Art is a strange thing and every artist has a different relationship with it. --He may not be able to keep away from creating, or maybe creating feels too 'guilty' (after all, why are you making PORN when you could be spending time with grandma?) ... ... or it may be that he'll still be creating, just slowly and passively... and going on hiatus is his way of not feeling guilty about not producing content quicky and reliably.

Who knows. Time will tell.

There are some things that shouldn't be asked... This is definitely one of them...

Seriously...? If you had someone close to you die, would you feel motivated to come back?

Well that depends on the individual and the situation, I personally would be more motivated to return because I find drawing to be a good escape from reality.

How does he have no respect? Zonk's a damn great artist, DeltaFlame was just asking a question.

"hey man do you think after the old crone finally kicks it you can come back and make our spanksessions nicer? after you stop being sad about it, obviously."

Some questions just shouldn't be asked, and disregarding the situation they're experiencing in favor of getting more fodder for your porn folder is pretty shitty. If your question or statement starts with "with all due respect" do everyone including yourself a favor and just don't say it.

The same goes for "I'm not a racist but..." and similar starts.

Lmao that sounds SO MUCH worse the way you say it. That wasn't my comment, though.

When someone tells "my grandma is very sick and i want to take care of her and i dont have time for anything else" and your reaction is "cool, but when she dies, are you gonna again devote hours upon hours worth of time making videos of animals fucking for me???"

that is. not very nice. no matter how politely you format it, its rude as hell.

I'm very confused as to why the common interpretation of "I wonder if he'll return to doing what he used to do" turns out to be "I'm pervertedly greedy for fap material and care more about an artist's work than the artist."

Because poorly worded or not, that was NOT what was said. At all.

Granted, that "I wonder" would have been better unspoken and kept to oneself.

If anyone has an account, can they ask if patreon content can be uploaded now.

Did this ever get answered? It was kinda the point of the topic to begin with, but it doesn't look like that was acknowledged.

Frankly, I wouldn't think so. This causes more problems than benefits, and even the benefit can directly cause a problem. You'd have to leap through loops to make sure the Patreon only post doesn't get deleted or gets restored after deletion, the user may need to FFD any inferior post that was previously uploaded before the agreement, which causes a further mess if the artist retracts permission or makes a takedown; even minor problems like the artist later uploading the Patreon version onto their free galleries, which could trick people into uploading a now duplicate version, or the possibility of the user having their Patreon versions deleted because the artist uploaded even better versions on their free galleries...

Long story short, the problems outweigh the benefits here. It's better to ask for the artist to upload it themselves, since they already get these priorities without the hassle of a middleman (unless they upload inferior / BVAS, but that's another story). An artist has the power to upload their own DNP artwork, including paid content, and everything listed above either comes with the task or is avoided because they're the artist.

I kinda thought this answered it pretty well, TBH.

This thread is my lol_comments. (I don't have a side, as usual, but allow me to shrink my heart three sizes for a moment, as usual.)

Lacking sympathy (but not empathy) and being selfish (normal), I have idly thought along those lines for other things. Regardless, plainly suggesting gain from someone's expected death is considered an uncouth faux pas. You're especially not supposed to acknowledge that someone will die unless you walk on eggshells or gush sentimentality.

In this case, Zonkpunch said "permanent hiatus". Permanent should mean permanent, as in indefinitely, as in perhaps never with no plans for returning. I thought, in reality, Zonkpunch may return a year from the announcement, later, or never. More often than not, artists disappear for stretches of time with little or no explanation, or they provide vague hints like "health reasons" (common one). If Zonkpunch wasn't high profile and didn't renege on Patreon obligations (?), the furry public probably would not have been informed. It is what it is.

Be content with what you've gotten and move on. If such a time occurs when Zonkpunch returns to furry while you're still interested in it, then so be it.

Some would call the bumping post masterful trolling, witting or not. Fits the pattern.

Yeah you'd feel bad for the fact that someone you loved died. But as anything else life goes on and he will need to get a job again.Hopefully that meaning he can come back to art.

I was thinking similarly. "It would be great if we could have a lol_comments tag for threads like this."

Any way, I don't have any opinion on the comment made by DeltaFlame. Zonkpunch can choose to come out of retirement at any point they wish, and it doesn't require the death of a family member to do that.

But I do wish him luck, even with his grandmother's failing health. I'm sure his supporters will get behind anything he wants to do (or doesn't want to do) from now on.

Seems like a pretty lame excuse to me honestly. Taking care of a single elderly person isn't really a full time job in my experience. Plus they go to bed at like 5 PM so there's plenty of free time to draw porn. It's something that would slow down workflow, not stop it completely.

And before someone says "REEEEEEEEE! U jus want dat zonkpunch porn!" I actually don't care, never been much of a fan. There are artists that would break my heart if they stopped drawing, and Zonkpunch is not one of them.

Nowhere in his post does he use the words "sick and dying"...he literally says "I moved to keep an eye on my grandma who's health has been worsening over the past few years, especially recently." Those same words could be used to describe my own grandmother and yet I still expect her to live for another 10 years (luckily my aunt is close by to take care of her). Not exactly "sick and dying" you drama queen...sounds more to me like she is just ageing...if she was actually sick he would have just said "she is sick".

Pretty sure that we are not Zonk himself so we have no clue about his situation and how he's coping. Also, he isn't taking care of someone like it's a paid job, it's his family. Calling someone's sickness a "lame excuse" is a very douchey thing to say. Everything is not about you.

And? How does this relate to what I said at all?

Waba said:

Again, we're not even sure she is sick. He never used the word "sick" and in my opinion he would have if she was. She is probably just getting old...you know...that happens to people.

Again, how does this relate to what I said? I already said I don't care about the dude's art, which is the only way I could possibly make this "about me".

In your very first two sentences in your response, you related this situation back towards you.

Then proceeded to state about your experiences

Again, this ain't about you or what you've been through. Is reading comprehension not your strong point?

That just shows that I can relate to the situation and I'm not just some asshole with no experience in elder care trying to comment on an elder care situation, that doesn't make the situation "about me" you donkey. Making a situation "about you" is basically twisting it in such a way that you're discussing how it effects you. Like if your friend's car breaks down and you're like "oh no Tim! Now you won't be able to take me to Taco Bell with you!" That's making something about you. You should try some reading comprehension yourself.

Updated by anonymous

Yeah, you two can stop now.

Chances are Zonkpunch knows better how much care his grandmother needs considering he helped care for her for the past 2 years. If he feels it's better for him to go full-time than by all means he'll have his reasons.

Technically, when everyone is born they start dying of life.
