Does anyone here know of oc maps? they are basically a group project done on youtube by several animator which each animated a scene for parts of a song.

how they start off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufuuz4lK_tY asking for people to do a part and then the video poster in the end puts it all together

how they sometimes turn out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHRveVfz4iU (has some gore in it)

what are your thoughts on these? i personally find them neat

No, I'd never seen them before. I think they're pretty cool.

I do wish the parts were a little bit longer. Or that all the artists working on a video had coordinated their individual parts so that it could pull together as a whole.

Because watching it feels a bit scattered and sudden sometimes, like a schizophrenic masterpiece. I end up wishing I could have seen what would have happened next in one part when it switches. Or don't have enough time to switch gears and really care about a completely different one. They kinda feel like switching channels really fast sometimes when they're all back-to-back like that. But if something was common, like a theme. Or if something was carried over from section to section like an item or motif or character. Or they somehow formed some kind of sequence. Something like that seems like it would maximize the whole idea and make it phenomenal. But that could be just me.

I love watching the different animation styles. And seeing the different directions people took the same piece of music, inspired in completely different ways. That's fun to watch. And I think the idea is pretty incredible. There's so much untapped potential that can be done with something like that. It'd be a lot of fun to play with, I'd imagine. It's fun to watch. So yeah, I can definitely see the appeal there.

Not sure if that's a fair statement, considering.
