Topic: [Feature] Important tag modifier for the search

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.
A prefix modifier to tags in the search bar similar to the negation (-TAG) that excludes a neighbor tags in the tag group.

For example let's say I want to search female only picture, but do not care for solo. The most correct way to do so would be: female -male -intersex -ambiguous_gender since in the male, intersex and ambiguous_gender are all genders that could still pop up, if I only search female. Note that female solo would not be what I actually want in this case!

So let's say the prefix ! would expand !female by searching the tags direct parent or group and excluding all other tags for that to female -male -intersex -ambiguous_gender

Why would it be useful?
This feature could be used to better express what I'm searching for, reducing the tags I have to used and find what I want more quickly.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
Tag search

I'm having trouble coming up with how these relationships would be implemented without manually defining them for a small subset of the tags that the site has. There isn't any relationship data between tags like this.

There's also the question of what groups of tags should get this. Gender is fairly small and the most plausible, but other things get trickier. Human/humanoid/anthro/feral might also be plausible, but whether or not modifiers and rarer form should get included is going to be iffy. And for species it'd be absolutely impractical.

Another hurdle is that expanding tags could quickly exceed the tag search limit.

All this made me think that, like, some sort of advanced search page with like, checkboxes and multiple fields might be neat (Search for 'female', but not 'male' or 'intersex') but I think that that could get really complicated.

But, if you have the options visibly available, then people can't choose options thar aren't there. (randomly, if we have, say, anthro/humanoid/human etc on a list, but not taur, people can't search for taur and then say "centaur doesn't work"... jsut that "taur isn't here." ... does that make sense?

Gender.. bodyshape is another pretty good one.

And while species would be impractical, you could hit up some of the broader categories: Mammal, reptile, marine... Maybe some of the most populated subgroups--canine, feline, dragon, etc)

or maybe some other broad categories like... male/male, male/female, female/female etc or anthro_on_humanoid feral_on_anthro... or types of sex--oral, vaginal, anal, etc...

In the realm of crazy dreams.. something like this COULD allow people to create more refined searches: If everything mentioned above is searched for while still allowing the user the ability to have access to their full number of searchable tags, then... that could be neat!

But probably a lot of work, if it's even possible.
