Topic: random downvotes?...

Posted under Off Topic

ok so this is a bit random but for some reason, every one of my comments just got a -1 downvote regardless of what the comment was.. is this a personal thing? did I accidentally make some enemies?...

Investigated and handled. Seems to be a personal thing, not going to dig much into it, but the user has been warned for abusing the site tools.

ok, thank you. I don't want you to name any names, but did they perhaps say why they did it? In the short time I've been here I've really tried to be nothing but friendly and helpful to everyone, and I'm not sure why someone would go out of their way to try and damage my reputation. but if it's something I can change, I'd gladly do so..

It could be as simple as you liking something they don't (Positive comments on something they would have been negative to), uploading something they were about to, etc. Some people are really petty.

As far as I can tell, you and the person who got a neutral for mass downvoting you have never interacted in any way or I think even commented on the same post.
the closest thing you two have ever come to communicating is when he commented on one of the images you posted and then complained about getting a single down vote on that comment. Maybe he somehow blamed you for that single downvote I don't know.

As far as I can tell, you didn't do anything to cause this attack.

People will downvote for absolutely no reason
just look at my avatar

I guess for some people it's a way to cope with IRL frustrations, like being yelled at by their boss or their boyfriend withholding sex

Seriously, what the others have said: some people are petty fucks and if you said "I prefer cats' they will stake that as some sort of Personal Attack and.. yeah., don't worry about it. It's just people being pissy for probably no reason.

I still think upvoting and downvoting shouldn't be a thing. This isn't Reddit.

Respectfully, No, this isn't reddit. But comment voting systems are REALLY common all over the internet.

Comment voting systems mean that people are less likely to reply JUST to say something like "lololol" or "i disagree very pointedly and strenuously! I find these words to be slanderous and thusly challenge you to a duel!"

And I think that it should against the rules to argue in favor of its removal.
Seriously thought it's not hard to just ignore a little number in the corner of your comments. If you want to see comments that have been downvoted to oblivion, you can even set the threshhold to -9999. No comment will ever go that low. In fact, the second lowest scoring comment is nowhere near the first

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Certain users can be real salty if you've pissed them off in the past. I've had this experience myself with others who are now banned for their behaviour. Chances are they're someone immature who can't form a coherent argument, so they resort to downvote trolling. Just don't start doing the same thing yourself and it will stop eventually.
