Topic: How do you make your art?

Posted under General

I'm just wondering what different people use to make their sketches, animations, flashes etc. For example, do you make your sketches by hand, or via a programm?

Majority is digital.

Joke answer: I just turn on my computer, open literally any drawing program, and start dicking around with the spray paint tool while hoping for the best

Real amswer: I actually use MS Paint to draw my lineart, but I only use the curve, line, pencil, and eraser tools to do it, and for the color, I use a drawing program called PictBear. I have used GIMP before, but I could never figure out how to make good shading

I paint watercolor on 300lb cold-pressed Arches watercolor paper.

To digitize, I set up the painting in even lighting, photograph it with a DSLR camera, and use Photoshop or similar software to ensure colors in the photo match those on the painting.

To protect my artwork from theft, I only upload low-resolution images (6" long dimension at 72 ppi). High-resolution working photographs are kept offline.

If working digitally I do everything in Paint Tool SAI. This includes the usual sketching, inking, coloring, and shading but also things like my digital paintings and even sprite/pixel art. I've tried a lot of programs over the years but SAI is the only one I've liked enough to stick with. My tablets are a Wacom Bamboo Create and a GAOMON PD1560.

If working traditionally I sketch with a pencil and go from there depending on the specific media I want to use. If I'm using markers I first outline stuff with lining pens and then color/shade, but if using paint (watercolor or gouache) or ink wash I just paint right after the sketch. If I'm using markers I use alcohol marker paper and if I'm using paint or an ink wash I use either blank postcards on rough watercolor paper.

i make pretty almost everything in paint tool sai.

occasionally i make the sketch traditionally and rest of it digitally (i do this only when i dont have anything else to draw with. i always draw with pencil on whatever paper i can find) and sometimes i do stuff in photoshop (tho i really hate using photoshop because its overloaded with confusing tools and shit i will never need)

Clip studio paint (or manga studio as it is called in Europe), drawing with a wacom intuos (the mouse is really clunky for drawing).

Digital:

Wacom Intuos Pro tablet. I've tried drawing with a mouse but it is incredibly difficult. Total props to anyone who can do mouse art!
Photoshop CC on my big computer. It works really great and does very smooth lines, I love it.
Photoshop 7.0 on my little computer that can't handle CC. Very basic, weird lines that won't do smooth curls.
OpenCanvas1.1. I used to use this exclusively but it's been more difficult lately, I think due to Windows 10 messing with it. But I still love it and the effect I get. Smooth lines!

Traditional:

Any paper I can get my hands on. I've been using TUL pens for inking. I don't think they are meant for art but they have a nice roll and feel very good in the hand.

I use a mechanical pencil for any pencilwork. I've used one of those ever since I was a kid. Regular pencils are a bit too temperamental for me.

Pshysical Tool: Cintiq 13 HD (Before that I used a Bamboo Wacom)

Sketching: Always on Paint tool Sai.

Very clean Lineart: Clip Studio Paint.

Flat coloring: Paint tool Sai.

Speedpainting: Everything on Paint Tool Sai, since I don't need a very clean Lineart for that,

For animation.

Rough Animation: TVPaint.
Clean Up: Clip Studio Paint.
Coloring: Clip Studio Paint.
Post-production: After effects.

Pixel Art animation: Aseprite.

I make everything digital, i dont have a scanner or anything to get my hand drawn stuff digital. I use an android app called Artflow for drawings and for pixel art IsoPix.

I draw with a keyboard and mouse in Paint Shop Pro 7.04.

I'm probably going to get a more specialized program for pixel art (like Aesprite or whatever it's called) and develop my own software to specialize in vector.

Someday.

I use a keyboard and mouse in GIMP. I will use several layers just to create the outlines--One for the most major of body parts (ie Torso and Head), then a few to tack on for limbs, a few for colors (I tend to color eyes separately), and depending on what else I want to add I may add a few more besides.

I use a Huion GT-190 and I use Paint.NET and Paint Tool Sai for everything
