Topic: Why is Raichu the new Lucario?

Posted under Off Topic

I can't go to FA or Inkbunny and search Pokémon without Raichu OCs on every page. Like all obnoxious Pokémon OCs they all have their special snowflake traits be it physical differences, hybridization, magical powers or otherwise. Oh, and they pretty much all exist solely for porn. Some have taken the special snowflake gig so far that it doesn't even look remotely like a Raichu anymore. If I didn't tell you that this was supposed to be a Raichu, you would not have known any better. It's basically Lucario all over again, but at least most artists have respected Lucario's from enough not to specialize the fuck out of it to the point where it's unrecognizable. So I'm sincerely asking. I legitimately want to know: What is up with the Raichu craze? Why now rather than sooner? Where'd they come from? And where are they headed...? These things...I am going to destroy! ~ Kefka FFVI

Raichu OCs have been around forever.
More likely it's the newer pokemon games causing a renewed interest in peoples' old OCs.
Also, calling any pokemon based character an OC is incorrect imo, but whatever.

my opinion is since Pokémon count as a variety of species its no different than making a character thats a fox or a wolf or even a human. Yknow, as long as you have the uniqueness.

Meh, Trends, there was a time where arcanine looked like it was going to be like that.

Thing is, Pokemon species only exist in the games and are the creative property of their respective creators - you can't really be unique if you're using someone else's creation as your character, let alone self-insert

I see your point but, i guess its ind of a technical thing.
