Topic: What do you think of furry's?

Posted under Off Topic

Real question. Here's where I stand on the fandom: I draw furry stuff, I upload the stuff, I do art trades and commissions, and I'm relativity open about being a furry.

Here's the thing, though. I don't really like furries. Most of them creep me out, and I try to stay away from most of them, IRL or on the rest of the net. I don't know, I just find find furries to weird a bunch, but I also sound like a hypocrite since I am, indeed, a furry myself.

So I guess the question is what do you think of most furries?

It's a lot like that on shit like FA. I use it as really just an art dump, but then I look at other peoples pages and the shout-outs are always "thanks for the fav" or "thanks for the watch", I mean seriously?

There are some weird furries out there but all of the ones I have encountered are pretty cool and laid back. I guess it all depends on who you talk to really.

Updated by anonymous

Nearly every single person who takes it seriously, wears a suit and all that tends to be a nutcase/douchebag.
The people who are only in it for the porn tend to be pretty neat peeps - Unless they take the porn seriously as well, which in case they are even worse than the first category of furries.

Basically agree with your sentiments, especially the hypocrite part. The furry fandom seems to breed awkwardness that isn't accidental.

Personally i think there is a certain amount of hugboxy, narcissistic, cultish stuff going on with fursonas. The 'hugboxy' and 'cultish' stuff I associate with identifying with any subculture, so I generally avoid that whole concept -- I enjoy anthro art but I'm not a furry, I program but I'm not a programmer, I draw but I'm not an artist.

Ultimately, those aspects of acquiring a problematic identity through deciding 'I'm furry' are what most bother me when I see them in the community. Don't put shit into your identity just because you happen to enjoy or participate in X, that's bad mental hygiene.

I think people who draw a lot of gory/torturous stuff also are likely to have mental health issues, but happily I actually see this less in furry art than mainstream art.

I sort of like how when furry art is stupid about sex, it's most often stupid in a funny/absurd way rather than an oppressive way (which seems to be standard operating procedure for mainstream art). This does not generalize to interacting furries, though. Furries seem to be somewhat intentionally creepy versus the average person being unintentionally creepy.

I don't really have a picture of 'the average furry', because IME the average furry is almost exactly as nondescript as the average person, just a bit geekier maybe.

Furries fucking suck.
And here's why.

- too high of a percentage suffer from special snowflake syndrome, making them insufferable twats.
- way too many furry artists can't take criticism, making them twats as well.
- too many Furries lack the understanding of when something has been taken too far and they should stop, making them creepy twats.
- the circlejerk within the fandom rivals, if not exceeds the level of tumblr.
- they get either extremely defensive about furry porn, as in "oh it's not the majority, just those creepy people" or divulge their creepiest fantasies to just about everyone.
- talking with them irl is fucking obnoxious, honestly there is more to talk about than the fucking fandom. Really. Come on. You're as bad as the bronies.
- every fucking person seems to have a sob story with each trying to out do the rest, to the point where literally everything they say is either over dramatic or flat out bullshit.
- the drama. 99% unnecessary.
Furries are twats. There is definitely more I could rant about, but I have to go fap to pictures of animals fucking.

I didn't meet one in real life, so... I dunno. One thing I always hated, though, is... why is 80% of people's fursonas either a canine (dog, fox, wolf) or a dragon? It's pathetic.
I REEEALY HATE THAT!!

Updated by anonymous

The high majority of furries are normal people, working normal jobs. The people that seem to be the ones that identify the fandom are the unemployed entitled hipsters that have no friends and want to belong to something.

Those are in every niche, fling, and fad. Furries are no exception.

I think it would be more accurate to say you hate douchebags. And that's okay, most of us hate them too.

In my opinion Furry is like any other fandom. With the Fans to the Fanatics to the outright Psycho/Freaks. Star Wars has em, Star Trek too. Hell I met invader Zim crazy girls in high school. Let's not even mention anime.

I think its really stupid how furry gets a bad rep compared to all the others. My personal opinion is we really only tip the weirdness scale with bestiality/ feral work, which still falls in "normal hentai". As far as things like NTR(I loathe with every cell in my body) and Guro(dont care for) or even depressing shit in general goes "normal" overflows with it compared to "furry". I really, enjoy that fact.

I think that's probably a good way to put it. Every time I see this thread I think, "But every group has those! Every single group out there has mal-adjusted social misfits, people with undiagnosed mental health struggles, people lacking social skills, people with poor self perception, people with poor communication skills, people who don't play nice with others, people who overcompensate, braggarts, attention whores, people who act entitled, people who are hypocrites, people who live badly out-of-balance lives, people with obsessions. These aren't unique to furryville. Wtf?" And then I'm left with nothing to say.

So honestly, I think everyone thinks their group is somehow different, but in reality we're all the same. (Not worse or better). You could replace all the references here to "furry" with any other group's name and you'd be able to find every single bit of the same bs in that group too. I've seen people do it with everything from fandoms (any medium), to their chosen major in college vs other fields, to sports, to religion, to candy choices. You name it, people fill it up with their problems. People bring their issues/problems along with them to whatever group interests them, not the other way around. Furries aren't anymore unique than the rest of humanity. And most people (furries included) have some kind of issue themselves: they just are less tolerant of anyone else's bs and too accustomed to their own bs.

This. I highly doubt the rate of people in it for the SFW stuff outranks the peeps who are in it for the porn. I'd guess that the ratio is SFW = 15%, NSFW = 85%

This, though, I can't really say what "furries" are like, as I have never met one in person.

What you encounter on FA is equivalent to what you encounter on DA. Both have good artists, bad artists, really creepy shit, etc. The majority of the activity on DA does not account for the majority of painters and drawers, and the same is probably true of FA and "furries"

Depends on the person what I think about a furry, but for the Fandom:

Seems like there are smart and nice people many good artists, some bad ones like in other communities, too.

But then there are the guys who takes it too seriously, try to convert people to the fandom and can only talk about their favourite fandom + the animals they like.

Next point is the fighting between the sub-fandoms like Pokemon or MLP. For a fandom that isn´t really tolerated and hardly accepted there´s a lot of intolerance and fighting for fetishes (when it comes to porn) or other commmunities related to the Furry fandom.

All in all: We have all kinds of characters, from the "Hobby Furry" over the "very interested" and "just fappers" to the "Fanatics".

Seems like every other fandom to me

I went to school with a few people that I think were furries, and a few people that I eventually found out were furries, and you know what? They were cool people. They acted normal... for geeks, anyway. I mean, the worst thing that happened was one of the geekier ones wore a tail for a day. (I use the term "geek" lovingly, by the way. I was friends with most of them.)

I just wish I didn't have to feel like I'd get embarrassed if I told someone, friend or otherwise, that I was a furry. And I don't mean relishing in it or anything fandom-related, either, I mean something like, "By the way, I'm a furry," (not necessarily that casually, though) and then we'd move on with either the conversation or our lives. And if I end up having to explain what a furry is, I wish I wouldn't have to pray to god they don't search for "furry fandom" later and get back negative or creepy press about the fandom in general or anything else.

I think most of them can be socialized, unless they are the weirdos that only talk about furry fandom, shove it to your face and talk how their "REAL FORM" (yes I have found some of them) or their custom quality fursuit or some shit, basically the creepy ones.

However I truly hate the murr-purr hugboxes, heck even "Give HER the Dick" has more thought than murr-purr crap, that and the FA teenagers that write shit like "Is this going to have sex at all?" seriously?

The rest I can explain it (sort of), since it's true that a LOT of them have canine, dragon or cat fursonas, leads to fuking fruit-loops themed fursonas and poorly made names.

And before you ask, I try to keep all furry related stuff to myself, since I'm mostly for the porn and some truly good art out there.

Whenever I see people in public, a good 80% or more are fat. I remember just a few decades ago when that wasn't true and I wonder what on earth happened? It's almost surreal how fast that changed.

Second Life, the internet etc.
Furries like being in a fantasy world. The internet give them the power to experience that world - while also sitting on their ass 24/7

There's probably some truth to that. Spending too much time in a fantasy life has a positive correlation to neglecting your own real life. =/

I feel like you could power a small city off FA's drama.

There is something that makes me wonder how much FA people can be bitchy, one of the most hilarious examples can be found when this guy and his twin or something use the species used by adjot and act like the species IS copyrighted or something, I mean yes, it is polite to ask the artist that created the species, but if the artist doesn't act like he cares about them anymore, why act like he does?
(said artist created the species, then for whatever are his reasons, abandoned all adjot related stuff including the account and species, and started fresh with a new name).

My guess is those guys want some original OC's.

Many furries will solicit sex from people they met in a comments section. They're far too open about their sexuality in that way. Guess they're desperate. Even though e621 has rules against it, they still do it here sometimes.

Its actually tame here compared to places I have been. Hell, occasionally it happens on skype.
