Hey everyone, I just created an account here recently-ish and this is a topic I had in my mind that I wanted to discuss with the people of e621.

For a while i've been a lurker on this site, and I love how easy it is to search for great artworks. But something I've thought about recently is that the gay content hasn't been that great recently. Of course this is just my opinion, but compared to the recent straight and female works it seems like those have more effort put into them.
I've read a couple of forums here and it seems like the most blacklisted tag is male/male, so I don't expect a lot of people to reply to this thread, but I would like to know what people think who are a fan of male/male. If you want to talk about this topic, but aren't a fan of gay stuff, you can still feel free to comment although you might be biased

Are you sure this is not just pornographic stagnation? You can get tired of looking at the same premise over and over again, and your quality standard will begin to get higher and higher to sate your tastes. While this isn't exclusive to porn, burnout occurs for every recreational activity, you might just be subjugating yourself to a "bias" if you've been viewing primarily gay art for a while.

If you feel like you're suffering from this, almost any solution that fixes regular burnout will also fix this: stopping, changing genres, limiting yourself, et cetera.

I recommend looking at straight, lesbian and other non male/male art. Maybe you are just getting tired of it, so look at something different. I used to only look at male/female art, but that got boring after a while.

Yeah that could be the case. I don't really have a quality standard in some cases but, I would prefer it good pieces and I assumed everyone else that looks at gay art would to. While the porn is apart of it sometimes I lurk just to find some good , but gay post barely makes it above 10 .

Well there is a reason I look at gay art primarily. Though I do take a peek at the great sraight works every now and again and it seems more people are active on those post.

So you're basing quality of a picture based around how many upvotes it has? That's not the most sound of logic, you have to realize. Everyone has personal tastes, what one gay person likes, another gay person may not enjoy.

Just look at what you want to look at and ignore the ratings.

While this site is primarily for archive and collection of furry pornographic material, the userbase as a whole seems to prefer straight, female solo/pin-up, herm, and anything animated.

This is based on anecdotal evidence of watching the "best of the week" front page for over a year.

I'm picking out of my own uploads and I rarely upload porn-- but there is several pieces of pron I'm scrolling past too. I'm just not sharing them because I don't like linking porn in forum threads because it's a personal sort of thing.

Art is subjective. Don't let other people tell you how to feel.

My favorite pieces I've ever uploaded have awful scores. Most of mine are well under +10. Does that mean I upload bad art? No. It jsut most people don't care enough to vote.

Well... statistically, there are more heterosexual people than homosexual. but...

That said, i think you gotta keep in mind, that everythign that is uploaded here is uploaded by a person. There's no 'approved artists' who are auto-uploaded, jsut a buncha fans who upload when they want to upload.

And when I say a bunch... I mean that about 40% of the pictures uploaded tend to be uploaded by 20 people, while everyone else uploads a few pictures at a time.

(For scale, I'm looking at a 2 week period: 38% of uploads came from a list of 20. The most active people posted 993 pictures while the least active person posted 101. There are 8509 uploads not counted on this post. the top posters post a LOT.)

Normally people post what catches their eyes. it is possible that some people have shifted their focus, or that some artists have slowed down recently, or any number of possibilities. But I doubt that, as a whole, the furry fandom silently decided that good artists weren't allowed to do male/male anymore <3

I've always found it to be the exact opposite...I've noticed gay artists tend to be much better than straight ones...if you're a gay person in the closet (still happens I expect) you might to turn to art as the primary outlet for your sexuality, and thus get really good at it...at least that's my pet theory about it.

Colouring status and whether a character is in a "presenting" pose are also major factors beyond this, I've found.
