Topic: "Does not belong here"?

Posted under Art Talk

About 4-5 days ago I posted this picture:
http://i.imgur.com/MLG5hCs.jpg

It's just a random pony from the show "My Little Pony F.I.M"
Flying in front of the sun.

It's the silhouette of a Pegasus in front of the sun essentially. Not even a specific pony.

Upon posting the image, I came back about a day later to find that the image had been deleted under the reason. "Does not belong here"

I attempted to message the admin about it, asking what exactly in it caused it to be denied as it's a pony image. And I've seen stuff like this posted before. But the admin after 5 days has offered no reply.

What in the image makes it. "Not belong here"

I assumed at first it was the sun in the background, as it looks realistic and most of the time RL pictures get denied here. But it's a computer generated model so I don't think that's it.

Anyone care to fill me in as to why it was denied?

pony =/= automatically allowed

That's not what I meant by that. I'm just wondering what exactly in the image makes it. "Not belong here"

wouldnt it make more sense to pm the mod who deleted it instead of demanding they publicly defend their position?

I did PM the mod about it. It's been 5 days, they have not said a word. And they have been active on the site all 5 days so it's not like they're just offline.

I got no response from them, so I'm asking on the forums for someone to clarify it. Not necessarily the admin.

Please directly message me about it, do not make a forum discussion about something so trivial as a clarification.

It sends the wrong message about your intentions, from our perspective.

But the image itself is literally just a screencap of the movie Sunshine, cropped a bit with a pony vector slapped on it...
I honestly don't see a lot of effort put into this one...

I'm impressed you found the actual movie it came from. Ignoring that. Then the reason for not passing moderation should be. "Does not meet quality standards"

Not. "Does not belong here"

Mmm, no.
A movie screen shot, with or without a silhouetted pony, doesn't belong here.

I didn't know how else to get the sun effect I wanted. It was either that, or the significantly less pretty pictures from google.

That would still be copyright infringement.
The way to get the sun effect, legally, is to draw it yourself.

Yes, drawing a sun of that quality is perfectly easy and should be no problem at all. Note the sarcasum

Cuz, ya know, art is supposed to be "easy and should be no problem at all"

Look I'm not that good, so when someone just says. "Draw an incredibly detailed picture of the sun" that's not going to happen.

That's fair, but if you want to create art then you shouldn't start off by shooting for the stars (please excuse the pun, I couldn't help it).

What I'm saying is, if you want to create art, great! Please do! But start small, and ESPECIALLY don't use pictures that you haven't gotten permission to. If you want to do digital compositing (the art of taking some images and digitally assembling them into a new one) then go grab a camera, fire up GIMP, and make something awesome.

Yeah, sorry for not responding to your Dmail, I had a response drafted up but got sidetracked and then forgot about it.

To answer your question, it doesn't belong here since this is literally a shape of a pony in front of an image you grabbed from somewhere around the internet.
This is the equivalent of putting a sticker on top of the Mona Lisa and wanting to have it hang inside the Louvre.

Even if our standards are cheesegraters, stick figures, shitting dicknipples and cockvore we still aren't a place that needs stock images with pony shadows on it.

my art gets taken down everytime I try to post for the reason "not meeting standards of quality"

Try not uploading scribbles in MS Paint or Garfield comics that look like you've taken them with a VGA camera from the 90s.

You have to up-sell. Always up-sell.

The Mona Lisa hangs there, that is why I said it won't hang besides itself. :V

Stock images with text on it however, totally fine :P (I tease)

I do understand his confusion a bit, since a decent number of quick photoshops of stock images ends up staying, but yes, the picture in question was literally a silhouette of an image from the show on top of a picture taken from online :P

The pony silhouette is not an in-show image.

Why won't people just shut the hell up about Bronies? They didn't do anything to anyone, they just like a show so what, they're not hurting people in anyway.

Well...

I wasn't really around enough to see it, but the minute the 4th or so episode rolled by, almost every image board was flooded with an endless torrent of pony-related images, with 4chan being flooded the most. I think that's what really started all of that shit about hating bronies; "AUUGHH, I AM SEEING PONIES WHEN I DIDN'T WANT TO, ANYONE WHO LIKES IT MUST DIE" and so on and so forth.

I don't know why people started liking MLP in the first place though. Me, I was swept along by the anthro art that also flooded sites, but in a much smaller concentration.

What does that have to do with this topic? Don't try to derail forum topics with pointless unrelated drama.

This is why if I ever find something I want to post on here I do a quick search of the art that is already here to see if other art by the same artist does well, and if it does then I upload.

+1 I do that also sometimes

I try to be neutral most of time, but can't help to laugh when someone gets in an unrelated topic and speaks about fandom hate and sort.
