Hmmm.. I think I would rather the tag-name be something close to 1980's_theme or 1980_(theme)...

1980s would be very close to 1980--the tag for "art drawn in 1980" so there could be some confusion.

Plus, we already use blue_theme and similar, though those are not very well tagged. hm.. There's a tag set I'm forgetting about. I know we were thinking about tags like spooky_(mood) but those don't seem to have ever been implemented? There's SOMETHING I"m forgetting. I dunno.

Anyway.

I think this is a place where we should pick the tag-name structure carefully, so that we can apply to several other 'sets' of tags..

For example...

In my mind, these would be "recognizably stereotyped" rather than "culturally or historically accurate"...

  • Decade/era based tags (80's, 70's, victorian, etc)
  • Cultural thematic tags (Greek, Egyptian, french...)
Examples

There are only 130 posts tagged with greek -- I know there must be more.

post #130529 post #1259517 post #1348930

there are around 3000 egyptian posts.. but only 32 egyptian_clothing posts.

French:

  • Genre-based thematics (Scifi, Steampunk, Prehistoric)
Examples

Scifi (1741... there has to be more...)

Steampunk (503 posts, I know there's more..)

Prehistoric:

... all of these are things that are undertagged and, well, honestly, these are things that I wish were tagged more often. I tend to browse thematically rather than, er, kink-based. and it can really be hard to find, for example, art with Greek themes after enjoying, say, 300 or Gladiator or whatever.

You end up searching for greek (130), greek_mythology (110), ancient_greece (36), greece (7), toga (146)... uh... satyr (1341 -- but this is not a good search because it's full of non-Greco-Roman satyrs) Centaur (Even worse)... GLADIATOR! (118 of mostly good stuff. Still doesn't help if you're looking for nubile pretty Nymp-- IS NYMPH A TAG?) Nymph (185 - Oh these are all nature spirit fairy things... well, a few are good, even if most of these look like Tinkerbell's playmates.) ... ..... uh.... Do we have a word for... the helmets with the broom on top? Or.. uh.... the white columns architecture? OH OH OH, what about the little leaves that they wear? the-the-the... the plant-crowns? The... It's not a tiara... *googles for "greek head leaves"* LAUREL WREATH! AHAH! lol yanny laurel_wreath (37), ((laurels}} (15) and laurel (5). Hmmph.

Other thoughts/rambling -- tl;dr - some images (as described above) have themes (in this section, more sexual) that do not have obvious 'meta tags' like "medical theme," resulting in images being untagged, or scattered across 15 different maybe-right tags rather than unified under one. You can skip this if you want. I'm mostly sending it in this post so I have easy reference later.

After some more thought, I think that there are a lot of things that could be tagged with a *_theme, *_thematic etc styled tag.

There are several types of over arching thematics in an image that are/may be hard to precisely tag, based off of the TWYS idea.

(disclaimer, we might have tags for some of these already, I'm just sitting here with my coffee and thinking out loud.)

  • A few months ago, we had a post talking about consent based themes -- focusing on people asking "Is this okay?" and "keep going?" and whatnot. but it didn't seem to go anywhere.
  • Roleplay - not like pet play, but like.. games of pretend role-taking. You know: "You be the police officer and I'll be the naughty inmate" or "Let's play little red riding hood"...

post #1398696 post #1369019 post #1228552

petplay currently implies roleplay, which I'm not sure how I feel about. roleplay's kind of a messy tag that I think has been tagged on a lot of pictures to indicate it was based on a roleplay, and a lot of them are ... "sexy teacher in a classroom" where you have no idea if that's ACTUALLY a teacher being sexy, or someone pretending to be a teacher, or a teacher about to pretend that you're a student... .etc. just... sexy teacher.

So this seriously might not be a good idea, but... like I said, I'm throwing spaghetti at the wall over here :P Not everything is gonna stick. And most of all, roleplay isn't the tag under discussion ATM.

  • ... Maybe some other things like medical themes, or sports themes ... some pictures you can tell are supposed to be in a certain location but don't have a detailed background

medical is a tag we have that is used for a kitchen sink of posts: doctors, medical exams, medical/scientific experiments/torment, characters receiving medical care (ranging from military-in-an-alley, to sick-at-home-in-bed), to... I think this is supposed to be some kind of nurse-themed magical girl (post #1553403 ), to "this character is holding a syringe" to spay/neutering, to.. well, yeah.

Clicking on random pictures, it's also pretty obvious that sometimes people are struggling to find the correct tags.

post #1183659 - For example, this is tagged as doctor, dentist, hospital, medical, scrubs, surgeon, and surgical mask

I'll be the first to admit that dude's employment is not exactly obvious, but Dentist, doctor AND surgeon. He's also not in a hospital -- he's in a white void. But someone tagged it, probably in an effort to get it tagged under something relevant.

Again, I'm just thinking outloud. But "medical" could probably be cleaned up a bit and given some clearer tags so that 'medical' isn't just a kitchen sink. Medical_themes COULD help with that, but, like roleplay, we're not here to talk about medical stuff, we're discussing how to name a set of tags.)

TL;DR everything - Let's pick a good word for 80's_themed or whatever so that we can use it in other places later. <3

It is now 4pm and I need breakfast. Thanks e621.
