Pretty sure it's not confirmed yet. Still quite the possibility though.

I was hearing in the news that he went through depression lately and his death seemed mostly like a suicide...
According to the dude in the radio, he died of asphyxiation. If he didn't suicide, it was probably an allergic reaction to some medicine or something... but that is still in the air...
Anyway, he will be remembered.

'Tis a sad day. :(

Heh...
But yes, very sad news and nothing I ever saw coming. He always struck me as an especially happy and carefree person, he must've looked like that to most of the outside world. If the guy was suffering from depression, he has been able to hide it pretty well. Though I suppose that's why he was a star actor.

Been a fan since Mork and Mindy back in the 80's. It's kind of surreal that he's gone. First celebrity death I can think of that actually bothers me.

Hmm, sad news. One on those classic actors that always made me chuckle. Rest in peace man

Certainly a sad day.

That was a good read, thanks for that.
As for the death of a comic genius with a huge heart and a knack for touching millions (both to make them laugh and to make them feel) I'm just sad. If you'd asked me yesterday if I was a fan of robin williams, I probably would have shrugged and said, "I guess, yeah". But for some odd reason it is one of the very rare times that a famous person's death has affected me at all. I can't rationally explain it. It's not like I knew him personally or actively followed news about him or anything. But for some reason (probably to do with the nature of comedy) I feel this one on a personal level.
It seems sad to know he's not in the world anymore. I feel like a legend just died. There's also a dark irony that a man who made millions laugh probably died thinking he was alone. I find that really hard to reconcile. I knew he was depressed, it was there in his body language in the last couple of years. But I'd hoped that he had people in his life and would find his way through it, like so many do. (After all, hoping they'll be okay and have good people surrounding them is pretty much the most you can do when it's someone you don't even know.) I wonder if Jonathan Winter's death last year is part of what tipped the balance for him? From what I read, they were pretty close (both friends and as his mentor). Trying to deal with that on top of depression and rehab couldn't have been easy. In any case, there's no judgment from me. I'm just sad.
RIP Robin Williams. You are sorely missed.

I miss him. I miss him a lot.

I thought it was a hoax, oh fuck...
This is really tragic, he was an awesome actor and comedian, I can't believe he fell like that.
Well, he modified himself to be mortal...
Robin Williams. You'll be missed by the world.

They need to start being concerned for people with depression instead of brushing it off as a phase or some bullshit like that.

I swear when I had to watch hamlet for a project I said, "This better be the robin williams one or I will be pissed." Rest in peace, jack of many genres actor.

Lauren Bacall just died, too. Literally a day after Williams' death. 2014 has been a bad year for celebrity deaths. It's so sad that we've lost so many famous people.

They always die in 3's...
Someone's going to die within the week...I'm guessing a musician...
Hopefully Courtney Love.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman already passed away this year. He was the first, Robin was the second and Bacall was the third. We've had our three. Now the question is, who are our three for next year?

Year? Nope, it's not 3 per year.
So far this year:
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Ruth Duccini, the last Munchkin from the Wizard of OZ left alive
Russell Johnson, The Professor from Gilligan's Island
Sid Caesar
Ralph Waite
David Brenner
John Pinette
Mickey Rooney
Ann B. Davis, Alice on The Brady Bunch
Harold Ramis
Shirley Temple
Casey Kasem
And that's just the names you probably have heard of.

Oh, shit. James Garner, too. I didn't know Casey Kasem died, too. He was a part of my childhood because he was the voice of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo. Damn, that's a lot of people we've lost.

Yep, sad, but to be fair she was 85.
Did you know the shirley temple drink, despite various anecdotes claiming otherwise, wasn't created for/by her in any way?
She actually really didn't like them too, which was a shame because idiots fans would see her and order one for her.

Yeah I knew about the drink and her just in general. Man, half of 2014 is already done

In the past few days, I've probably seen over 300 posts on different websites talking about his death.
It's horrible that he took his own life, but I can't figure out why people are this distraught. I actually thought he was a terrible actor.

Compare those 2 sentences, know that they are unrelated, and know you are a terrible person.
Regardless of opinion, it was sudden to people unaware he was depressed. The suicide nature is what has people talking

Hundreds of celebrities die every year, many of them just as popular as Robin Williams. Many people, including myself knew he was depressed, so I'm confused as to why his death is so high-profile.
Also, do explain how I'm a "terrible person" for disliking the acting in this.

People didn't really like him for his "superb" acting.
People liked him because he was an upbeat, full of life guy who entertained us since many of us were children.
The fact that he killed himself only makes us miss him more.

He wasn't the best in everything, but no actor is.
He was fantastic in a lot of movies, and was an extremely funny and kind person on stage, on screen, and in real life.
Instead of picking a movie he's bad in, please watch any, or all, of these:
August Rush
What Dreams May Come
Good Will Hunting
Hook
Dead Poet's Society
Good Morning Vietnam
I avoided a few comedies that some people would like, and some wouldn't.
Add to that work his stand up comedy, and in particular the amount of time he spent overseas with the USO entertaining our military without really advertising it the way some entertainers do, and his body of work is much more than the average person manages in their life time.
I wouldn't go as far as to say you're a terrible person, but generally speaking negativity about the dead is reserved for a bit later than the same week they die, out of respect.

He is a hugely popular Comic, as well as his acting.
Add to that his death being a suicide, and him being known for his humor, and people have a hard time understanding/accepting it.
He was a person who was very well loved, particularly by those in the media, comedy, and acting worlds who are the ones that do the publicity stuff.
TBH, I don't think this is much bigger so far than Phillip Seymour Hoffman was when he died, though perhaps a bit simply because Robin was so like-able.

Now I wouldn't say it's that big but it's just surprisingly sudden and unexpected. At first I thought he died from age but I was surprised that it was suicide.

The only thing that irks me is that just random places that really have nothing to do with Robin Williams are jumping on the "mourning" bandwagon, and probably getting a bunch of views/clicks/ad revenue because of the click baiting.
