penetration? I mean I guess 'penetration' and 'dildo' searched together will give you a similar result. I kinda agree with you though.

Or even penetration sex_toy, but that one's a bit broad

For me penetration ~toying_self ~toying_partner is starting to be enough of a mouthful to warrant it's own tag.

I would also imagine this being one of those things that those who lack with english vocabulary might have extreme amount of trouble with differenciating the tags.

Insertion means to insert something, but there's no distinguishion of what is being inserted, was it toy or genitalia. Penetration means going trough something which is really commonly used with sexual insertions. Even you said "insertion...good tag for when a character is just being penetrated by a dildo" so many users would go "penetrated by a dildo" -> tag "penetrated".

So it is simply much easier to bundle words which would require 24/7 policing into single umblrella one which applies to all cases, then specify with more clear tags. I do feel like toying_* might be bit undertagged, but that's still better sounding solution for me as well.

We could have simple toying tag maybe? At least that would make it extremely clear that it's sex toy being in use, rather than confuse it with sex like insertion would be.

i like the idea, but there is chance that people misuse it for example for images of someone toying with their food. i def could see vore art getting tagged with it

sex_toy_penetration perhaps?

The funny thing is, we have several *_insertion tags.... egg_insertion, food_insertion .... but I feel like the tags were cleaned out at one point because there are only 19 object_insertion tags (which is a bit of a bummer, personally)

The problem with the separate <orifice>_insertion/<orifice>_penetration groups was that they were constantly mixed up and mistagged.

But ones such as food_insertion? Those seem more obvious, and shouldn't cause problems. I see no reason not to tag them. And to go along with those, sex_toy_insertion could be a good addition.

I am 90% sure that object_insertion was a thing at one point. For... non-food stuffs, hairbrushes, sharpies, and other things.

(food insertion has a few hundred posts, so it's doin' okay)
