Topic: Tag Suggestion: Columbidae/Columbid

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

The family of birds containing doves and pigeons. For ease of convenience, and to avoid tagging dove as pigeon and vice versa due to differing appearances and personalities in media and the like (and how e621 likes to avoid this when it comes to species tags, like not tagging unicorns as horses but rather as equine, for example), I feel like implicating them together as their connected bird species (columbid or columbidae) would be helpful

It will also be fitting the standards of other species implications such as the corvids. I was unsure which to suggest however, so I said either columbid or columbidae. The former would probably be the best to fit with the species structure we have in terms of tag names, such as corvid vs corvidae, cervine vs cervidae, etc.

So if an implication is made, every image with a pigeon on the roof would have the columbidae or columbid tag added?

I'm not seeing your point; doesnt this also apply with such things as crows and other animals in the background being tagged as Corvid? Or a dog in the background of a field painting tagged as canine? If they're visible and seen they are to be tagged, correct? I don't see the issue with that, but perhaps I'm missing something

Edit: rip I think you were maybe just asking. Sorry if I sounded snappy or rude, I'm heavily sleep deprived.

Anyways to answer: yes.

Just like if crow was implicated to corvid (act as if it isn't until now for this example), all pictures with crows on power lines will be tagged as corvid once the implication is made, ergo pigeons on rooves will be tagged columbid as it has pigeons.

Bumping this; a columbid implication for doves and pigeons would be really helpful imho, similar to the corvid tag. Background columbids will be easy to distinguish thanks to the ambient_bird tag, imho

What about dodo birds? I know that dodo birds are related to pigeons and doves.

Adding them

Bumping!

I'd also suggest a columbidae → columbid alias, but that one's not as pressing of an alias to get done.
