Topic: Deleting account?

Posted under General

Hey everyone does anyone know how to delete your account on this site?
Thank you!

You cannot delete your account, though you can change your user name and password to random letters and numbers to make it much more difficult for you to log in, and then just log out. It's about as effective as deleting your account, with the added bonus of easier recovery should you feel remorse about this decision.

What Siral says, you can also change your email to random button mashing (only needs a @ and . in the field) and it'll be changed without requiring activation again.

What email can I use that will make it difficult for me to activating it?

I tried to change my email with random emails, but it doesn't work. But, most importanly when people view my account do they see my email address or only my uersname on the account?

The email needs to follow the format [email protected]. The x, y, z can be replaced by random mashing, important are the presence of the @ and ., and having some stuff before and after them.

Your email is also not visible to anyone but us administrators.

Why cant you just delete the accounts or allow people to delete accounts this is rediculous.

I haven't looked that deep in the code but I guess it's a database thing akin to a castle of cards: take one from the bottom and everything falls.

That or fragmentation, don't remember which one

I think it's mostly to do with posts/faves/scores.

So any post you uploaded wouldn't have a user attached to it, which the current code might not handle well, then every favourited image would need to be un-favourited and the same for all your upvotes/downvotes.

I could be wrong, but I think I read in a forum post that mass tagging/untagging, with the tool available to users above "member" (maybe higher), stressed the site a bit when a lot of changes were needed. So if everyone started deleting accounts then the site could/would go offline as it worked through all the data. Effectively turning the "delete my account" button into a "denial of service" button, presuming a few people clicked it close enough together.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I presumed that was why.

There's also a limit on the api, and how many requests/searches you can send to e6 a second, for a similar reason.

Why can't you use the site as is and stop whining?
