Topic: If the Hell Girl website was real, Do you think peeps would actually use it?

Posted under Off Topic

The hellgirl correspondents' website is a fictional website that exist in the show:
Hell Girl ╹‿╹)

Basically, it's a website a dood could log onto at a special time at night,
Type in a name of a person they want to get revenge on and have that person
face poetic justice for their grievances before having them spirited straight
to hell.

But!

This type of service isn't free, For you see-
When your time comes you too shall be joining them in hell~
When you die of course, Not right away like them =‿=)
(It's a pretty cool show by the way, check it out if you haven't already ◠‿╹)~★)

Now

With all that said, If such a service existed in real life-

(Excluding peeps abusing the system for political reasons
since that would stray into Death note territory T‿T)★)

Do you think peeps would actually condemn their
own spite just to curse another with the same fate?

I've seen all of the first season of Hell Girl. It's not worth it, no matter how much the other person or persons is destroying your life.
If take the strand from the dolls neck, the Hell Girl correspondents will take care of the person you wanted to get rid of, but you will be branded for hell no matter what you do.
You could be the worlds nicest person, become a priest, go to church every day or stop world hunger. Your ass will still belong to hell when you die, for something you might could have taken care of yourself and still have your life forgiven.

We already have this. It's called Twitter.

Only those who are really stupid, have nothing to loose or who think they could bargain would use it (if the conditions and consequences are properly explained.

In the first years of the site's existence peeps would probably use it for fun, many would probably not believe it. But as people would start dying there would be a buildup towards the point when it would be recognised as the real deal. Then the fun begins.

Now aside from political, the social and metaphisical impact of the site would be really interesting.

Socially you'd wake up to s world where a desparate or broken enough person could say "fuck it" and murder someone, to say nothing of the political possibilities ;).

Metaphysically it would have an ENORMOUS impact primarily on religion. Peeps would get an empirical evidence of at least the existence of supernatural forces (there goes metaphisical naturalism right away).

The impact would largely depend on the nature of the eponymous Hell Girl but i could see Christians, Muslims (maybe), Satanists (allmost a given) and maybe Shintoists along with dozens of cults bellowing "WE TOLD YOU SO!!!" while the scientific community would either scramble and try to disprove the whole thing or try to apply rational enquiry to it (with presumably little success).

All in all it wouldn't be Earth shattering (provided the political use would somehow be curtailed), but it would cause some nice chaos initially that would "spice things up", most peeps i guess would live life as normal.

Well, that's my general estimate of what could happen.

I don’t think a site like that would even be useful if the goal is to get more people to hell. Anyone who would use it is most likely already going to hell anyways and anyone else would not want to damn themselves for eternity. Would some people use it, sure, but they were on the road to hell to begin with.

It's obviously aliens. Whether this is them trying to appeal to us and be friendly, or them creating an excuse to go murderhappy on our population, that's the question.

There have been enough episodes to show that you can send someone completely innocent (as long as you hate them enough to want them to suffer) to conclude it would be a terrible idea. One episode even shows that you don't even need a name. The entry was "the man stalking me", and it worked.

Oh, and the fact that it CAN send an innocent person as long as you hate them and want them to suffer. It CAN'T be used if you DON'T specifically want them to suffer. A kid tries it for the sole purpose of protecting someone he cares about and clearly is averse to the idea of even the tormenter being harmed, and he is rejected, because, in Ai Enma's own words, she is no messenger of justice.

Oh, and considering it existed before the internet, yeah there's that. Just like the site won't respond if you don't hate anyone enough to want then to suffer, it was once a newspaper column that would appear. Before that it was a plank of wood you hung.

Also the manga confirms you can only use it once. Someone tries to use it a second time and is rejected because you have to surrender your soul to hell, and she already did, and you only have one soul. So she couldn't pay.

Also to the guy who wondered which hell, it's Buddhist hell.

Also the show confirmed that while there is a hell, there is not a heaven. Well, heaven is nonexistence. One person pulls the thread only to find that he can't banish the person. The person has died of old age, and you cannot banish a person who no longer exists. No soul to send.

Oh and it has been confirmed you can banish an infant if you wanted.

If it is Buddhism, that sounds about right, except there are 100+ hells in some doctrines ^^ (and a special hell may be created just for you if you were especially dickish).
