Topic: Why is folf not a tag?

Don't know what to label this as for a forum post.. I've noticed a lack of a folf tag. Being a folf my self I enjoy looking at art of other folves, however I must type in three tags to just find a folf. The process, in my opinion, would simpler if there was just a folf tag so it could be easily found and searched. Just my opinion :3

Welcome to e621, I see you’re new!! Please don’t use clickbait thread titles. Instead of just saying “odd”, say something like “why is there no folf tag”. The idea is that you shouldn’t have to click on the thread to see what it’s about — the title should tell you what it’s about.

was going to mock this, but it's actually a usable suggestion.

"hybrid fox wolf solo" is the only way to search for it, which already produces 531 posts. and with that method, you can only find images that feature only one character. didn't know "folf" is a thing, but it seems more than common enough for me to +1 this

also, this thread belongs in the tag suggestions subforum, not general

cause quirky / edgy / curiosity-piquing topic titles are all the rage with today's youth. it gets someone to read something without potentially informing them that they might not give a fuck about whatever it is

Hybrid species do not get their dedicated tags, always tag both species and hybrid, so fox + wolf + hybrid.

Because of this, folf is aliased (automatically changed to) hybrid instead.

This case specially is not good, because both species are canine already and there's slight variations on partst that are taken from which one, which would make the tag odd exception to general rule if it exsisted.

Because not every hybrid species needs its own tag. We'd be swamped in thousands of them otherwise.

In general, it's because canids tend to look a lot alike, ultimately. Foxes are 'commonly' orange with a white tailtip, but they can also come in gray and brown and black colors, just like wolves. And when you add in the variations of artistic interpretation.. well, it can be hard to decide if someone's drawing a folf, or a foxyote, or a fackle... or just a fox/fox hybrid. Or jsut a fox. or a wolf, where someone has decided to add a white tailtip. or something.

Plus... If I search for folf.... it's probably because I want a certain sort of creature. But every person's folf might look different. Actually let's use something a little more different. liek I said, Canines look so much alike, that it's hard to draw species-specific traits in a way that makes it noticably a hybrid. So instead... how about.. a Rabbit-fox?

If I search for Fobbit, I am lookign for what I think a fobbit should look like. Let's say... slim build, long, wide ears (rabbit length, but wider) with dark markings. A tail about a foot long, with a colored tip. big strong back legs made for bursts of speed, a small snout with sharp teeth.

But YOU... you think a fobbit should have a heavier torso, with short slender ears (fox length, but rabbit thin). A long tail with a light underside. a long narrow muzzle with buck teeth. A build more like a fox--slender, but enduring.

And BlackLicorice and possibleawerewolf might have fobbit characters that look totally different! Werewolf's might be a rabbit in build, but fox-colored a with a fox face, while BlackLicorice might wants a sleek hunter with long ears and--well, you get the idea.

If I search wanting to see my 'flavor' of fobbit, I might be disappointed by the results. Or maybe not!

But that's why we typically don't allow 'hybrid' tags like that. There are a few exceptions, but they mostly tend to be examples where someone has created a species that has a specific appearance (and name! like... Foraxxit! or Robbolf! or Bunnarix! or...) that is consistent across multiple people's artwork and OC's. Like if I made up a fake pokemon species that a lot of people liked. Or Sergals. ... or dranei or yoshis or charr.

I hope that maybe helps make it make a little more sense? :)

The only hybrids that are allowed their own special tags are those that occur in real life. The folf and other dumb made-up hybrids go to gulag get aliased away to hybrid where they belong.

How is the title clickbait? Was it changed?

So you actually are angry at everyone. Why are you doing this then? I'm asking for your own sake. If dealing with people online is such a pain for you, you should take a break.

If you take everything I say with only absolute seriousness that isn't something I can help you with.
