HI I am Chris and id like ask for help designing this robot inspired by FNAF Mangle. I am in to robotics and automation After I get the design correct I can start 3D printing and casting the parts with aluminum that don't exist yet all other parts are off the shelf ball joints and other hardware I Have only been working on this for about six days and cant seem to get it to look right as far as the head goes I even have idea of making it talk like we do though artificial vocal cords made of small springs Like those old spring microphone toys which would give a cool sounding reverb And an air Bellow with servo actuation to simulate breathing. I have been planning on getting in to Soft robotics so I need to come up with a way to make a tongue, lips and other parts that need to be soft on order to form sounds and words.

This all seems complex but its not that bad. As far as the brains of the whole deal goes using a single board computer and some Micro controllers like arduino uno several of them can communicate via I2C Bus and even with today's advancement in Hardware/Software Neural Networks it can learn to Walk, Talk and even have slight personality all with open source stuff.

I hope to have a working prototype by next year.

We are on a verge of an AI revolution I believe technology is like LEGO you just have to take what is available and create a masterpiece. The one thing you have to do is think out side the box I have made some pretty incredible things using the LEGO philosophy.

Are you sure you want this project associated with a furry porn site art archive? Depending on what this robot is meant to do it seems to have broader appeal. Oh wait...

LOL that is one of the reasons something like this would be great in the future it could have the power to fall in love that would be interesting. I know it is possible now as a slightly primitive robot but it could do some naughty things even get creative and add something like a Tongue or other soft moving parts to internally edge in a robotic vagina it is a robot after all.

The one thing I have to do is keep the designs clean on my personal computer but get creative on this forum that I have to use in incognito mode to hide one of the biggest reasons to develop such a thing from my wife :D .

I am literally changing my sleep schedule from 8 to 5.5-6hrs just to have time to build a prototype within a year.

I have been thinking of a good way for servos to actuate fingers and toes by using cable to squeeze and small springs to retract and that would allow one small servo per digit and realistically hold a shaft.

The eyes will be like the more realistic mangle animations like Cavafly01, Disembowel and others there will be multi color led rings around low cost image tracking cameras for AI to learn faces and obstacles for possible realistic walking combining that with a multi axis accelerometer to mimic the vestibular system in your ear to sense balance. Believe it or not all of these sensors and micro controllers to deal with balance and walking actually cost less than 100USD.

If this all works out and we can figure out a few simple problems to robotics this could be the most advanced step towards robotics so far notice all of the advanced robots you can find on youtube are kind of bulky and most of them where designed for military use. there are some slightly robotic sex dolls but they cost upwards of $100.000 I hope to achieve selling one for $20k depending on capability.

I could see it being creepy lol as I gave myself a crash course in Blender CAD to start adding more features and rigging and it is definitely creepy. But at first I think any realistic robot feels unsettling and there are tons of people who believe it would be unethical but what really creeps me out is robots with human faces so I got inspired by FNAF because they are animatronics but it wont actually be Mangle. It will also open the door to make what ever you want by changing its features this whole project will hopefully be fully open source meaning whoever can buy a kit to make there own. At least its purpose would never be to harm Human life but if any thing the AI would only be able to care using a programed set of rules.

I actually was able to animate its Jaw in Blender today that was very cool perhaps when its designed I can make an animation for E621 and get a virtual taste of what it could be like.

i wonder how big of an issue that might be with reploid tech. as the majority of them are anthro animals in appearance yet they typically lean more to the mechanical robotic side of things when it comes to looks. perhaps that would be something worth taking into consideration.

hmmm... one thing you didn't mention was what the outer shell/skin would be like. hard plating, a softer plastic or something else, or furry. that too would play into the appearance and making it more or less creepy.

there's an annoyingly long list of things to consider with robotics. and the list just keeps growing depending on how advanced/powerful the design you have in mind gets.

iirc isn't it something of a requirement that a robots AIs need to follow a specific set of rules at its core to try and keep it from hurting humans?

sure, past a certain point (like with reploids being able to think and decide what to do on their own aka being self aware with their own free will), that might lead to more problems down the line but i doubt you're working on anything remotely advanced enough for that to be much of a concern.

That's quite simple. How do you stop your children from doing that? Even a child can hold a knife. You teach them. And if they happen to fail at ever developing emotion, even a sociopath can be redirected. Just like children who were born without emotion.

There are a lot of questions that cant be answered about the out come of A.I.

I spent about 2hrs trying to get Disembowels 3D mangle to compare some parts and see how different they are and get a good idea of how to go about modeling the parts I can now 3D print Mangles head lol. I have to thank Disembowel for allowing his work to be downloaded.

Also the idea of this is to be a platform for Male/Female with attachments that can be purchased like Breasts, Vagina or a penis what ever your preference but because this a general purpose platform you can also have no genitals as well as no breast just a flat chest.

I think at first this will be mostly hard materials aside from the mouth because I want to experiment with a more pleasant voice that sounds less robotic not just vibrations from a speakers voice coil. but I still think I should figure out a soft rubber like skin maybe even a felt like fur lol.

Thank you I hope once I start getting parts in the mail and go to the junk yard maybe for automotive servos and gear motors as they will have enough power for its arms and legs. Once I gather everything I bet the skeleton will be done in 3 months The biggest problem will be the Eyes they have to be Beautiful and detailed to preserve non creepy attributes.

I feel that these eyes are awesome and with Multi color LEDs you can make them any color you like. this is Cavafly01s Picture but the eyes are cool i think.

You could use a pump system to squirt certain liquids into the mouth. Tank near the stomach area or lower for ballast, clear vinyl tube up the esophagus.

Will there be a vision system? Will you be training software for vision and movement? Should we expect the hands to be able to manipulate objects (or grasp hips)? That is a lot harder than everything you have done so far but I'm sure a lot of progress (hardware and software) has been made in the last few years on this.

Well its tongue lol :) it curls around anything in its way I will have to use thinner cable in the future but if it had latex it would be very realistic and nice for... Ya know.

Its lips are next going to use cable like the tongue and maybe a manipulator in the corners of the mouth to add a smile/frown feature.

Not sure about teeth lol I know some like that but for now I am skipping that can add in the future.

Also about vision I am going to add a camera in each eye and use object tracking, Face recognition and maybe experiment with the simple AI that exists for free as open source Neural network which practically writes its own code based off of its environment.

It will have a female voice and speech recognition and hopefully with AI have conversations (experimental)

I may consider a plastic like shell to keep some people happy and be easier on the pocket as far as funding.

I am hoping a completed prototype will be good for Kick starter.

I will make a better video of its tongue to better show its manipulation and curvability.

Lol smashing its main purpose is not for sex. Its intention is to be a social robot so dirty stuff doesn't go on kickstart. The dirty stuff would be the other side of marketing if this where to be realized in a realistic fashion.

How would you take care of cleaning that out, though? Just disassemble it and throw it in the dishwasher?

I'd say a squirt of detergent and hot water spray to rinse.

Personally, what I would do is have one eye dedicated to object tracking and use the other as a proximity sensor. And as-for the AI and other processing tasks I would use this component: https://developer.movidius.com/ it reportedly uses 1w of power, can push 100 or so gigaflops in fp16 mode and is USB compatible for easy prototyping.

That's a good idea about the eyes as long as they look the same from one another which should be doable.

And movidius seems like a good idea as well and it requires Linux which is my go to OS for just about everything because I can tweak it and make it my own I will have to make sure the single board computer I choose is X86/64 the only down fall is those platforms use more power but as long as it doesn't use a fan for cooling as this will be mostly sealed from moisture.

My theory is that because the motor requires so many volts to run (40 volts in some cases vs. the max 5 from the 5 volt header) the MCU on the board just sizzles. Anywho, if you want my two cents, just drop me a line. I feel that if I keep writing these long posts I may drown everybody else out by accident.

Well I have 10 servos stuffed in the head I can't wait for I2c controllers to come I want to see more than 4 at a time move so far that's all my battery can handle.

Lol you guys crack me up I will have to remind you guys this is not a sex toy for me the prototype will not have any equipment for that the point is to create a social robot and try to sell open source parts so anyone can make one and if they want to add genitals or what not it's up to the creator this is why I said kickstarter would be a great place to start. Another thing is its not really fnaf based I just figured because of creapyness of robots with human facs id make it with a dog like head so mangle or whatever just shows what it could be like.
