Topic: Tag Alias: quebec -> québec

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Aliasing quebec → québec
Link to alias

Reason:

Refers to a character from Solatorobo. Both tags are currently used, but most posts use the version without the accent because it's more convenient for people without European keyboards

EDIT: The tag alias quebec -> québec (forum #216320) has been approved by @Rainbow_Dash.

What's the chance of somebody wanting to tag the Canadian province or the city though?

It's still a valid point. It should have some suffix to differentiate it from something that actually has a real presence in real life.

By that logic, we should differentiate every character (and possibly other things) that shares their name with a place even if there's no chance of the place ever appearing here.

sydney adelaide darwin perth griffith redfern collie katherine tambourine derby

These are all places and there are plenty more.

Sydney, Darwin, Collie, Katherine, and Derby definitely. Those other ones are obscure enough they may be fine.

And really for most of those common ones it's that a lot of characters are probably sharing those names.

I wouldn't exactly call a musical instrument found and used in many countries around the world "obscure".

48 tambourine vs 15 quebec/québec. Which one deserves it more?

the only way i'd be able to search for a tag like "québec" would be to copy/paste it into the search bar since i can't type characters like "é".

i can type quebec just fine but there is no é character on my american keyboard. :/ same goes for any other character that consists of a letter and punctuation such as spanish words that make use of the tilde character "~". unless, of course, theres some unicode thing that would do it which i don't know how to do.

Adding the alias would allow you to search quebec and get the results for québec. We already do the same with other tags like pokémon or Ōkami already.

It's alt-code , and it is a pain in the ass in games... for the é key, hold Alt and press in 130, then release Alt.

Like Morse Code Fuck said, an alias means you don't have to type that E all of a sudden. So, worrying about it being difficult to type means you should be in support of an alias.

Personally, I am, but the character still needs to be sorted out.

Assuming that in my name _ is a dot and - is a dash, my name could be "assmmmnfuck"

Neat.

.-. .-------. = R (.-------. is not a valid code)

Add some spaces and you get: .-. .- -- --- -. = RAMON

So your name from now on is Ramon Fuck.

This only works on Windows-based computers.
Also, if you don't know the alt-code to use, use the character map under accessories in the start menu.

You can type the key easily enough on apple keyboards but in both cases hardly anyone knows how

The reason given for that alias isn't very convincing, but either way, it would fit the usual policy of aliasing away accents and diacritic marks, so I'd vote to alias it regardless.

Why not do like many others and just have... Quebec_(character) or Quebec_(solatorobo) and Sydney_(character) and so on? Or the other way around. Quebec_(province) Sydney_(city)

There's no need to do "one or the other," just do both, y'know, like many other tags do.
