Topic: Artist reviews

Posted under Art Talk

I'm just trying to figure out if this would be a concept that people would be interested in/would consider contributing to.

Seeing as E621 is a place where many encounter furry for the first place, I figured it'd be good to have a thread where people could give some feedback regarding their experience commissioning an artist.
A thread like this could act as a good basis for newcomers, which artists they might be interested in commissioning, where to find them etc.

A review could look something like this:

Artist: Zeiro
Where: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/zeiro
Price: $£€
Type of image: Solo character commission of my fursona

Positives: It was a pleasant experience commissioning Zeiro because X.
Negatives: It was a negative experience commissioning Zeiro because Y.

Do you recommend them?: Yes/No

Seems potentially drama causing if someone had a problem with an artist, and the artist disputes it, etc. etc.

My main idea is for users to post about positive commissions. Commissions that they are happy with.

This ain't supposed to be a Artist Beware thread, if it's been an unpleasant experience dealing with the artist, no need to post the review.

I agree with Haltie. I like the idea, but I can see it going south easily.

I direct ya to my post above.
No risk of that happening.

You can't claim no risk, people do dumb crap all the time.
Even if you specifically tell people not to post complaints, someone could simply read the thread title after having a bad experience and want to bitch about it.

I guess I'm misunderstanding. It's for both good and bad reviews right? What's to stop them from posting bad reviews? Like "Pros: the cock was nicely drawn. Cons: I hate their guts, they got this wrong, and this, this too, and it took forever, and I over payed, and etc. etc. etc..." It seems much more likely that someone will, in a very angry moment, want to go and write a scathing review of an artist for messing up their commission rather than the other way around. Then the artist sees it and overracts and takes down all their art here, and only allows it where they have more control over it. If the artist deserves that, then that's fine, but do we really want to create the drama? And potentially turn away artists? That's something I love most about e6, how drama free it is compared to sites like Furaffinity or Inkbunny, and I'm wary to let more of that in.

Again, I really do like the idea, but I think it may have to be implemented differently, and I don't have a good suggestion.

If it goes so downhill that they are insulting the artist, I'm locking it and might hand out records, so message to err'body: Please stay respectful

Nah, only positive ones.
If the user is just ticked off and want to complain i.e they are not satisfied with their commissions - They should not post a review.

Even so, I see the problems that could arise from this. Probably a dumb idea.

If an artist asks for it, sure. Otherwise no.

Yes, this. Also, if you're going to give feedback, be it good or bad, be constructive. Everytime someone gives me feedback that says "I hate this", or "this is stupid", I ignore it. It tells me nothing.

Something like "using a lighter gray blending into the blue may achieve a better contrast. Also, might I recommend using a thinner bristled brush?"

See, now that is something I can use. Now, I will try using a lighter gray and a thinner brush to see it I like it any better.

I wouldn't use such a feature as I don't like to rate people.
How about something like this:
A simple up/down vote showing results for 25+ votes. In case a user decides to write a review he/she needs to write at least 200 words so they have to deal with the artwork/artist.

My feedback is usually "Can you make the penis bigger?"

This is a great idea imo

It could help people find what they're looking for much faster than trial/error or buy word-of-mouth

Maybe a sub-link on the artist wiki, with a layout similar to the one in the OP

I'm not sure how the potential issue of drama reviews could be handled without it turning into FA levels of censorship though
