Topic: Google hiding e621?

Posted under Off Topic

Is it just me or is Google actively trying to hide e621 from the front page?

It used to just appear as the first or second result in the past, but lately I have been finding it on the second and third results page.

Google personalizes search results so the algorithm might have decided that you don't want to look at e621 for whatever reason. If I go there it still appears as the first search for "e621".

I don't like Google in general and I don't use it for my search engine, but I doubt they are trying to hide e621.

Every now and then I find it impossible to find e621 through Google. So it definitely isn’t just you.

If your not using your standard browser it's possible that it's being blocked by safe search

With google it's also an issue that we have content that many places don't particularly like, so there's always a chance a government forces google to drop results of us in that particular country

all I have to do to find e6 is press <e>, <enter>. I have no life.

Please, I've made a separate browser config for browsing e621.

As for the search engine issue, I'd recommend using DuckDuckGo. It doesn't personalize your search results, and it doesn't hide or change search results based on the ideologies and political views that the moderators of the service have. Also, it has bangs, which really help out in quick searching. They used to have a !e621 bang, but it seems they realized what kind of art is being uploaded here, so they removed it, which sucks.

Oh, one more cool tech tip. Go to the e621 frontpage, right click the search field, click "Add as a search engine...", and give it a shortcut, for example "e6". That way, you can quickly search on e621 by typing "e6" in the search field, and typing the search query after that. You can do that with most search fields online.

Could be a blessing in disguise in case some prude looking for monosodium glutomate gets an eyeful.

I might be wrong but I think they removed all porn bangs - so they weren't targeting e621 or furry art specifically, at least.

Well, I guess keeping a bookmark on the site would be easier.

They will still get an eyeful when they access Google Images. 😏

Do people really google this site to get to it instead of just typing the URL in their browser?

Yes, I am one of those people that searches for "youtube" and clicks on the first result rather than adding ".com" in the end.

Honestly though, it's a force of habit.
