Topic: Pornhub is interested in buying Tumblr

Posted under General

Well that's interesting, given Tumblrs updated policy to Explicit content. Probably not a bad move for PornHub to acquire it, if the intentions are just to restore the website to how it was. Would allow a lot creators to return to their blogs too.

Pornhub becoming a better place for content creators than Youtube.
Pornhub seeking to buy Tumblr.
Seeing the porn video site slowly making it's self normalized, makes me kinda chuckle and smile inside.

Even if it's restored to normal, the damage is already done, as some of the artists had already left Tumblr without knowing that this site is restored back to normal, so don't get your hopes up on them.

A good number of people on twitter alone already saw Pornhubs possible plan to buy Tumblr. While there is some damage, it's not total permanent damage. Some artists wont return, some might and new artists might want to give it a chance. Either way, Tumblr is not just for posting porn pictures.

Well, I don't care about how many have already saw it ever since the site's downfall. Plus, I still don't think it's a good idea to move back to Tumblr because of the size resolution.

Thankfully, many things in life are capable of changing and are not locked into a single state of being forever.

People can come back.
New people can join for the first time.

Image resolution could be changed!
Support could exist! The owners might actually listen to the people!

Things could be become better!

Or worse. Who knows.

Someone i know once termed Pornhub a "chaotic good site", i like the sound of it. ^^

It's like Verizon just wanted to clean up the site and re-sell it

They failed to even clean it up. They got rid of the good and made the bad stand out even worse.

I would go back to Tumblr if they took away the NSFW restriction, so I'm hoping this is a real deal, but I'd also like to see them improve the site.

Better tagging, better block feature, more moderation, blacklisting features, a REAL ability to block NSFW from SFW tags, etc.

It's also worrisome that Pornhub itself allows stolen content so hmm.

The Tumblrocolypse completely killed my follower count, especially because there really isn't a viable Tumblr clone that I know of that everyone migrated to. Many people refused to go to Twitter and Pillowfort is still a work in progress.

I'm hyped.. As long as they promise to take care of the porn bots.

Hope we'll cross that bridge when we get there even though that one issue about Pornhub somewhat monopolizing the porn industry.

The other issue is Newgrounds. With that porn ban, Newgrounds witnessed a revival of sorts. Should Tumblr be restored, what shall happen to Newgrounds?

Newgrounds is a decent enough gallery, while Tumblr is more of a "get found easy" site. I imagine a lot of artists who do move back will keep their Newgrounds going because why not

In my personal opinion, limiting to a sole site is a fools game, the artists that branch to multiple sites have the highest chance of recognition as it appeals to a wider viewer audience, and has a lower chance of art being lost to history should issues with the sites crop up.

True that.

I have this crazy wishlist that Pornhub should buy DeviantArt too, given that it's dying website, and it's the reason why artists moved to Tumblr in the first place.

While true, Any artist that DOES do this will tell you that not all sights perform equally.

When I was doing commissions, I posted to deviant art and furaffinity.

Actually, lemme get some real numbers for you.

One of my best pieces that was uploaded to both sites was some fanart.

DA gave me 6856 views and 431 faves
FA gave me 126 views and 9 faves.

My MOST VIEWED piece on FA had 150 views, and 7 faves. On DA, my most viewed piece was DA gave me 6856 views and 431 faves.
My MOST FAVED piece on FA had 84 views, and 16 faves (and was my icon for several years). My most faved piece on DA has 509 faves.

As you can see, there's a REALLY big difference between the two websites.

half of my commissions came from FA though.

And I know many people who get nothing out of FA. Some people made their living through Tumblr, while I know another person who didn't get a single peep ever out of tumblr despite being an exceptionally good artist.

and posting to different websites can take a LOT of time and effort and it's annoying.

Yeah, diversifying is a good thing, but there's also a time investment thing to put into it. If a gallery takes more time then it's worth, then you shouldn't bother with it.

This sounds like the best decision any company could ever make, fuck yeah.

In all seriousness, I'm not surprised Pornhub is interested in doing this.

Now it's easy to post on multiple galleries thanks to apps like Postybirb , if it wasn't for that my IB, FN, Tumblr, Furiffic, Pixiv, DA and nsfw Twitter would be dead xd.

Pornhub's not exactly a great company, and, TBH, it makes me a little nervous. Pornhub's owner has kind of a monopoly on porn streaming sites ... and has little care about people who steal other's work or content. (pornhub is STUFFED full of stolen stuff.)

But even past that.... well, remember the whole "Pornhub is plowing people's streets!!" thing from a few years back? Turns out there's not one bit of evidence that they actually plowed any snow at all

Seriously, go read that. it's not too long. but the tl;dr is that they said they did, they maintain that they did, but no one ANYWHERE in the city of boston has ANY pictures, and NO ONE has said that pornhub came and helped them out. Except one guy, who just so happens to have the same phone number and voice as a rep from a PR firm in new york, but a different name AND stopped responding to emails the moment that was questioned.

The whoel thing is pretty scummy.... and Tumblr has a lot of younger impressionable people on it.

Tha'ts true! Postybirb does a lot ot help out with this XD though you still "should" keep up with messages and comments and so on and so forth. XD I know that can be timmmmme consuming. It's up to each individual artist to figure out their balance on shit like that.

For the most innactive sites I check them like 1 timea month, so is not time consuming xD, even if i checked everything once a day, it doesn't consume more than 10 minutes.

I've read it and unfortunately, that's just one of many publicity tricks in the book on how businesses are operated. It's all a front just to get you interested in their product/services. Every business you see in the mainstream has had a scummy way to get where they are.

I think Pornhub buying tumlbr would be a good thing. Some of my favorite artists like LordAardvark posted their content almost exclusively on tumblr. It be really nice for the site to go back to the way it was.

I wonder how they're planning to build it up to regain popularity with the ban still active?

Also, great job Yahoo for blowing nearly one billion dollars in investment.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/14/18266013/tumblr-porn-ban-lost-users-down-traffic

They probably haven't lost more than half of their traffic since the ban.

They have a user base larger than many sites, but had no way to monetize it. Now it has been sold for what I assume is less than the cost of the hardware the site runs on.

WordPress devs may be able to optimize the site's dumb code and lower operating costs. If they can stop users from jumping ship, they might be able to insert enough ads to pay the bills. No more billion dollar valuation fantasies, just make more than is spent. Moderation is probably the biggest issue. Maybe they can pay Google or Microsoft to use it as a radioactive testing ground for the latest content-killing AIs.

Doesn't Wordpess have its own adult content blogs though?

Apparently yahoo wanted to turn tumblr into "next generation pdf" or some shit. The whole shit went downhill because the people making decisions had literally no idea of what they were doing, and the people who did the actual work had no idea what this "next gen pdf" nonsense was supposed to be, and how on earth you implement it on blogging platform.

That sounds like a Dilbert cartoon, but it's real.

Actually, if you include the period shortly beforehand starting about July 2018 where they were starting to bleed visitation (which incidentally was shortly before the time they started blocking all the raws, but I'm sure that's entirely coincidental) they literally lost about half the traffic, and the rate of fall since the actual ban itself is, lets say something that should be eye opening to anyone who's invested in keeping the site alive.

When was it exactly we knew about the ban happening? Either through rumor or otherwise? I can't seem to find a date.

May I just say that Verizon initially bought Tumblr for 1.1 BILLION dollars, and now they are selling it for around 2-3 million dollars?

The amount of dosh that got pissed away is unreal.
