Do you mean an Avatar? Just find a picture you like, and put the image number in the 'Avatar' field in your settings.

Whoa, turn down the tone dude. You can't blame him that he's new here

To OP:
1. Go to "Posts" on top of the page
2. Go to "Upload" while on the Posts page
3. Browse for your image, tag it (more than 3 tags), add source and then click "upload" at the bottom.
4. Have cereal

Don't forget that it must comply with the same standards as a normal upload (read here ).

With that said, welcome to e621 and happy uploading!

Edit: Or you can do as Tangent said. Go to any post you like and under "Options" there's a link that says "Set as avatar", confirm and you're ready to go!

You cant upload anything that doesn't meet "minimum quality standards"
^ bullshit ^, I've seen complete shit get approved by admins

If you get something good enough that meets quality 'standards', then you can use it as a avatar

If you mean an avatar:

1. Find an image on the site, like this one
2. Copy the post ID number (In this case, it would be 466655)
3. Click My Account and click Settings
4. Scroll down to Avatar Post ID and paste the ID
5. Click Save at the bottom of the page
6. Enjoy the site!

Wow...r00d.

If you want to UPLOAD an image that isn't already on the site, you would want to click on POSTS in the toolbar at the top of the page, and then UPLOAD which is on the submenu of posts when you click it.
You can upload a picture either from a direct url link to the image (like a .jpg .swf .gif .etc) or upload it from your computer. Make sure to upload it with the proper rating (safe=no naughty bits, explicit=naughty bits, questionable is like in between...I'll trust your judgement for now.) and add at least four tags such as the characters gender, species, any sexual acts occuring, the artist, and if it belongs to a copyright, put that as well if possible.
Make sure if you are posting the image in from a link that you paste the link exactly in the space for source, so that others can find it as well.
Then just click upload and you're done! Your image will be successfully uploaded.
Now if you want to put that picture as your avatar, just simply view the picture by clicking on it and scroll down along the left side of the page under the tags and you'll see such options as "add to favorites" and "add to pool" and the like. You should be able to find a link that says "Set as avatar" and you click that and BAM! You got a new avatar baby!
Hope this helps!

I'm getting a little fed up seeing you whine about this. You are more than welcome to go somewhere else that has stricter guidelines than us. (good luck with that)

I am new here as well, as of two days ago. a friend recomended this site due to the fact that Deviant Art wont let me post some of my more intimate artwork. I have been drawing since I was 7, I am 29 now. and more than half of my submissions have been declined. What I would like to know,s is there a picture that defines the minimum quality standards?

People want an aweful lot of realism for creatures that don't exist....

Welcome to e621!

I'm sorry you've been having difficulty uploading your content. I browsed through your submissions and can make a few suggestions: try inking/coloring your posts. Line art will not get very far here due to our quality guidelines.

Another, I would recommend, would be body proportions. If they are off, it detracts from the fantasy.

I will try... alot of my work is how i see it in my head.. odd proportions and deformities included in some of them. I'm not saying that from a sceintific standpoint it looks wrong. Its just how I have always pictured it. I will try to do better.. At least e621 accepted SOME of my work.. Hentai Foundry wont accept any of it.. someone actually told me it looked like a two year old drew it.

that was upsetting.

Hello... sorry If I didn't make a new topic.. but I was wondering what are the minimum standard quality here in e621? Because I would like to upload some of my old and new art here... but lately I had 5 deleted post! I don't know if it is the image itself or the compress file, or the resolution of the picture... Anyway, If someone could guide me, I'll appreciate it!

I have no idea as to the quality standards but I will say that I've seen sketches and scanned images on this site. My guess as to the quality would probably be limited blank space within image, comprehensible writing, and neatness. This is just my speculations, however.

And for future reference, necroposting is not entirely condoned around here.

Thanks for replying! I think I'll try to color some of my pictures (with better resolution). I have too many sketches around, so coloring maybe would fit with the quality standards.

I don't think coloration matters. I think it just depends on shading values and such.

When I said 'Blank space', I just meant where the sketch ends.

As for the higher resolution, just try to keep it within constraints of the site. I'm unsure of the pixel constraints currently.

Hello, welcome to e621.

In regards to the deleted posts, sketches are generally something we try to avoid. However, some of your stuff might have been taken down because they were done via traditional media, as opposed to digital. I will bring this up with the Committee and see if we are in agreement over this decision.

For your posts, I would recommend cell shading, perspective, and symmetry. You had one post with what seemed like three different themes: traditional art, old photograph, and photoshop.

I hope this isn't becoming the policy from now on. We actually have a lot of traditional media here already and many people enjoy them. Mixed media, traditional media, digital media, and other mediums have nothing to do with the skill and overall quality of the piece, and it's good for the archive to have variety. At least in the past, it would have been far more likely that something was taken down because technically speaking it wasn't showing enough technical skill in (usually several) ways: quality wasn't very clear, anatomy was off, line definition wasn't very strong, lacked detail, badly scanned/blurry picture/poor lighting, compression fragments, or other more technical reasons based on the artistic strength of the piece, regardless of the art medium being used to make it. I would hope that this is still the case?

I don't know what he's referring to, but we have no intention on changing our stance on traditional vs. digital art.

To clarify this further, the image quality is important to us as well, if you scan it in on a decent machine it'll have a higher chance to be approved than a picture taken with a VGA camera on a phone from 2006.

The same goes for digital though, if someone thinks a .jpg with a 70% compression is a good thing is wrong.
