Topic: Complaint: Imagefap.com Source spamming and false artist tagging

Posted under General

the user belac1 is using alternative accounts to mark wolfy-nail's art with his name as an artist tag. This is fraudulent because the only thing he's doing is uploading them to a spam site called imagefap.com which is full of crap and reposts of other peoples artwork.

I don't think this should be allowed to continue because its diverting traffic from e621 to a potentially malicious pornsite.

proof: https://e621.net/post/index/1/source:*imagefap.com* this search string shows all of the posts that are being tagged with the website as their source.

This seems more like it maybe should have been a report, not a forum post, but oh well. In any case, I read your post and then looked at both the sources and the actual posts, and what you're saying is horribly misleading.

Those are actually edits.
belac1 is the user who made the edits.
The imagefap gallery linked is where he/she posts the edits, so it is a valid source for that edit.
The original artist's tag is still left intact on the images.
The watermark only credits belac1 for the edit only and still credits the original artist for the rest.

All in all, that is probably the most responsibly and correctly done job of crediting both the editor AND the artist, that I have ever seen. Terming this as stealing is not accurate.

ETA: Also, that search brings up a whole lot of other posts that have nothing to do with wolfy-nail OR belac1, making it seem like this is about a lot more images than it actually is. imagefap is a place that hosts explicit images of all kinds. It's not going to be a common source, but that doesn't mean it's an invalid one either.

ETA2: So only 3 images out of the 49 images in that search are even edits by belac1. The rest are other images, by other artists and posted on imagfap because it is an image hosting gallery for adult images, and then people including that source because that's where they found it. Valid sourcing. Only 4 of those 49 are even edits. So even if the fact they were edits was a problem (some edits are allowed) this whole presentation just blows it all out of proportion.

Yeah, I also checked IP's and otherwise came to the exact same conclusion as furrypickle, he edits images and then posts in the source to his imagefap gallery, otherwise it's a whole bunch of people who find the stuff there and then link to it as the source.

The edits are good, but - Didn't we have a thread a few months ago where we decided that people who edited an artists image should not tag themselves as an artist? Especially if the edit isn't authorized?

I believe we did.

Good, editing does not make one an artist

Hello. I thought I might offer a little bit of further information, just to help clear some things up.

I have not personally uploaded any of my edits here in about 6-7 months. Recently, someone else has been uploading my edits, which, as mentioned before, I have been uploading primarily to imagefap.com. This person is the one who has been adding me as an artist tag. I don't personally mind that, but if that's not ok I completely understand. Furthermore, this person (or at least, someone who isn't me) added the imagefap.com source to these images.

Also, when I was still uploading my edits here, I would try to make the original image here a parent post, so that people could go to that image to find the source of the original image. And, again as mentioned above, when I add my watermark, I only ever credit myself as an editor, not as the creator of the original image.

I understand that edits are a contentious subject, and that many people don't approve of them in any context, but I really do try very hard to give credit where credit is due.
