I realize this is said as an intentional change, but seemingly without any reason. I tried to find a way to figure out who uploaded something, but I couldn't find any way to.

That does work, but you're only able to view that with an account. Without an account, there doesn't seem to be any way to find this (previously available) info. I'm also still curious about the "why" of this. Seems a lot of things have been done without much explanation.

Fair point, I would also want the uploader's name to be kept on the post's page instead of being hidden behind the history section.
Guest viewers should be able to see who the uploader is without having to use an account.

Unfortunately, it feels like guests are getting the short end of the stick with this update. Really a shame. At least personally, I don't like having an account for every single website, especially one like e6 where I'm almost always going to be browsing it in incognito.
The given reason is that it put undue strain on the server to look that up every time someone looked at a post. I can somewhat understand that, but at the same time, being able to see the uploader was important for catching art that's only allowed to be uploaded by the artist. If I see an image by blitz, for instance, I can simply glance at the uploader to ensure it was them. Or if I see a post that has no sources, if it was uploaded by the artist I can reasonably assume this is where they have their art, and either they don't have another place or they haven't put it up elsewhere yet, whereas if it's not the artist, I may want to do a reverse search to find the source to ensure it's a proper quality version (and add sources in the process) and also not potentially pay material. Now I'd have to look through the history to find this stuff out, which is more hassle and makes me less inclined to do it.
If it was undue pressure on the server, I could understand not showing it for guests, but for us users that can flag potential DNP material, or look for sources and upload proper versions of images, quickly knowing if the uploader is the artist was very helpful.

If it indeed was putting extra strain on their server, then I can definitely understand not showing it front-and-center as it was since it's not exactly critical information, but restricting it to an area that guests cannot access whatsoever seems like a bad, and quite pointless move.
