Those feel distinct in a way.
Embrace and embracing are tagged almost universally for sex, and there's a lot of content that I wouldn't consider to be 'hugging'. Though on the other hand, I'd say the same about quite a few of the posts that are currently tagged as hug sex.

There's also considerable overlap with cuddling.. Bit of a mess, really. Not sure how to untangle this.

Sorting the posts into vertical (hug) and horizontal (cuddling?) would improve searchability.

(And it kind of seems that both embracing and hugging are over-tagged, various *_grab tags might be a better fit in some cases. )

Yeah, it's funny since both wikis are very similar, but I've always seen them as distinct from each other (though I hadn't realized how universally embrace was used for sex). Personally, I think embrace should act as an overarching base tag and have cuddling and hug implicated to it. However, the wikis would need to be improved to better distinguish each of the tags apart.

Something like this ?

embrace

This tag is used when a character is holding another character in their arms, usually around the neck, chest or waist.

Examples:

post #702550 post #693223 post #677328

Not to be confused with grabbing.

hug

A hug is a form of physical intimacy, that usually involves closing or holding the arms around the neck, back, or waist of another person.

For tagging purpose, we consider that the characters are hugging when they're not having sex and are standing.

Examples:

Not to be confused with grabbing.

cuddling

An act of intimacy in which characters are in close, physical contact with each other.
The act most commonly serves as a form of affection or comfort for the characters engaged in the action.
Cuddling generally involves two characters (but may incorporate more) and can be performed with or without clothes on.

That seems useful on the first glance.
I'd add kneeling in addition to standing to the hug definition, and embrace should require both characters to hold each other in some way since otherwise it's just one-sided *_grab.

But considering the number of posts and time it'd take to sort them, this definitely needs more feedback.

Here's some refinements I've made to these wiki changes:

  • Placed the examples at the top of the page, and made several tweaks to the format for each page.
  • Altered embrace to specify 'two or more characters are holding each other' in the wiki's description.
  • Altered hug to also include kneeling in the wiki's description.

There are also some questions I have.

  • Should embrace specify that it should only be used for sex?
  • Should embrace specify it applies to characters who are standing, kneeling, or lying?
  • Should the 'can be performed with or without clothes on' segment for cuddling be added to embrace and hug as well?
  • Should each of these wikis include something specifying 'involving two or more characters', or something to that effect?

There is still some cases where only one character is holding the other or without chest contact.
It seems ok to tag them with embrace, but not with hug / cuddling / *_grab.

embrace could be used regardless of the position, as long as at least one character is holding another in their arms.

hug should be used when there is chest against chest contact and cuddling when all body is involved, even if only one character is actively hugging.

With this definition, it could be ok to implicate hug -> embrace and cuddling -> embrace.

It doesn't seems useful to me, it could be removed from the cuddling wiki.

I'd go with chest-to-body contact as we can also hug from behind (chest-against-back), for example. It's a hug if a body part of the recipient is against the giver's chest.

Here's the changes to these new iterations of the wikis:

  • Altered embrace to specify 'Some cases may involve only one character holding another character within their arms, with or without chest-to-chest contact between these characters.'
  • Altered hug to specify 'Some form of chest-to-body contact must be present between these characters.'
  • Altered cuddling to specify ', and must involve the full body of at least one character wrapping their own body close together with another character.'
  • Removed the 'can be performed with or without clothes on' segment for cuddling.
  • Made some more small changes to the wording of the wikis.

Hopefully these wikis are ready to implement (or at least close to implementing). Is it possible to change the embrace alias to an implication for hug -> embrace (and cuddling -> embrace)? I'm also still unclear whether or not embrace should clearly specify that it applies to characters who are standing, kneeling, and/or lying.
