Topic: Sydney VIVID 2013

Posted under Off Topic

I've just come back from VIVID, and I saw some pretty sad examples of furfags wandering around gaying shit up. I hope for all our sakes none of those people were off e621. God damn, by far the worst fursuits and outfits I have ever seen, but that is possibly because it is the first time I have seen "out n' proud to be a furry omg lifestyler" sorts in real life. Wish I had taken some photos...it was amazing.

EDIT: There probably will be some 1st party photos coming out, because it looked like a semi-arranged group and furries LOVE being camera whores.

Sydney furs suck serious balls. Search for the tag sydney_mardi_gras and see some of tonights fursuiters in action, and giving great PR for the fandom. Furries aren't all gay, ugly fat males in shitty fursuits, they're people who "love to be wild". We need a euthanasia program.

This seems like some serious bawwww here. From the look of those photos, they pretty much just stood on a truck and waved. There's even one with a ton of people waving back. I don't really see the big deal here. This is no where near the worst of what the fandom has to offer.

Problem is it is reinforcing the stereotype that furries are a gay subculture.

No, not really. I laughed my ass off at it. I wasn't being serious, wow.

Common fandom wisdom holds and research shows that approximately 75% of the Furry Fandom identifies as Bisexual, Homosexual, Pansexual, or some variant there of. The stereotype is at least somewhat justified.

Is there something in particular that you're seeking to change in the public's perception?

Yes, that we are not all embarrassingly dressed glowstick toting, retarded costume wearing dorks. :)

Sounds like a goddamn nightmare. Glad people like that are hard to come by here stateside.

I might go if I was in a bubble or something.

Oddly enough Sydney's FurJam is... pretty normal, for a "con" (meet-up) anyhow.
