Topic: Kitsune tag deleted

Posted under General

So now if we try to put kitsune on a posting it just changes it to "Fox" ... Why can't we add kitsune to our post anymore? My character is a kitsune, not some generic fox. And now I can't tag any of her posts as Kitsune anymore? Why? Who changed this? I need to add both kitsune and fox to my post but I can't any more. :(

She has two tails. She's a kitsune, not a "Two tailed fox". There is a difference.

The reason it was aliased was because everyone and their mother were adding it to their posts, regardless of whether or not it was accurate. The tag was virtually useless, the only value it had was that the artist/owner said it was a "Kitsune"... which doesn't work in the TWYS (Tag What You See) system. Fox_spirit is used instead, since that's more accurate to what Kitsune is supposed to be used for. Of course, now that I say that people'll start tagging their hedgehog OC DONUT STEELS with it.

Read the linked wiki before tagging it, otherwise fox_spirit may get aliased as well...

The site follows a rule called Tag What You See (TWYS). What you know, versus what you objectively see, might be classified under a lore tag. I don't know if a kitsune_(lore) tag exists or not.

Seems more to me like this website is just trying to lump all the fox types in to one generic tag and they won't let us tag our characters correctly anymore. Almost seems like borderline censorship in a way. :( This really sucks and it has me sad, but whatever. I guess I'm some just some generic fox now, thanks to E621.

Yep. I understand TWYS. I see a fox with two tails. I see a kitsune. But I can't tag it as kitsune.

What makes a kitsune visually distinct from a generic multi_tail fox? Would you tag Miles Prower as a kitsune?

Tagging species objectively can in itself be challenging, canids especially. I often have trouble determining a wolf from a fox or a dog depending on the art style. Trying to determine if they're a mythical but identical counterpart species is just an unnecessary complication.

This honestly sounds like a parody or a troll.

Are you seriously going to try to pull the censorship card because a furry art archive didn't let you use some particular tag? Are you seriously so upset that you have to tag your fox character using English rather than a romanized Japanese that literally means the exact same thing?

This honestly perfectly confirms all my opinions of the sorts of people who insist their characters are kitsune.

"Kitsune" are foxes. The word is the same.

There do exist terms like 妖狐 which are exclusively supernatural, but under TWYS, there aren't exactly very many means to distinguish between normal foxes and their more supernatural counterparts.

Though, there are tags for the most common things:

That's not even true. nogitsune, kumiho, and huli_jing aren't widely used, but being that they have implications attached to them, that means staff saw those tags at some point and decided they were, at least at the time, worth keeping.
