Topic: Genus: The Animated Pornographic Sketch Series (Could it be possible?)

Posted under Off Topic

Hi. You will meet Robot Chicken, a stop motion sketch series that consists of parodying series, movies, video games, etc. All in a series of segments called sketch in the purest style of Saturday Night Live.

After that, I started thinking about. What if they use a similar series but with the Genus comic?

For those who do not know what Genus is. is an anthology comic for adults focused on furry fandom. From this comic came several artists such as Eric W. Schwartz, Terrie Smith, Karno, DAQ, Jerry Collins, Tygger Graf, James Hardiman, Mitch Beiro, Roz Gibson, Joe Rosales, Paul Kidd, DLNorton etc.

After that, I imagined that this comic would be better if they did an animated adaptation and that it was a series of sketches in the style of Robot Chicken but more focused on explicit sexual content.

Due to the content that this comic presents. It is preferable to convert this into a web series designed to be uploaded on imageboard pages such as e621.net and rule34.xxx or on pages dedicated to uploading pornographic videos such as PornHub and XVIDEOS.

I imagine that the series would adapt each issue in each episode, where the segments would be represented as a sketch. I'm going to leave a list of episodes, each one based on the issue corresponding to the episode number.

What do you think? Is such a series possible? This can be funded through Patreon, plus dreaming is free.

I suppose it would be possible, but I don't it's probable.

For an older series with multiple artists who worked on it, you would need to contact the company that owns the rights to Genus and get approval from them to make an animated series based off this copyright. Trying to make money from a project without the copyright-holder's approval (even in a non-profit capacity) is open to possible lawsuits from the company holding the copyright.

Even if this was a fan-made project done in folk's spare time without any money involved, I'd imagine you'd have to get approval from each of the artists who originally worked on the segments in the comic.

A stop-motion furry series would be interesting to see (I'm quite interested since stop-motion animation isn't as common nowadays, or at least less common than I think it should be), but I think greater success (and less legal hurdles due to copyright laws) could be achieved if this series ran on it's own original ideas. Inspiration can be drawn from Genus and other series, but I think original stories and segments would give such a series it's own distinct appeal.

Hopefully this has been helpful.

I'd have to agree with D.D.M. On paper, it looks doable, but once you start thinking about it, you'll find it's not as feasible as you thought.

For starters, there's the legal wrangling. Copyrights are the obvious issue, though there's others such as licensing, how much creator control ought to be accepted, and maybe even legal battles later on if the original artist wants a bigger slice of the pie.

Next, not all comic stories or concepts adapt well to animation. It's likely some of the stories just wouldn't work, need to be padded out more, or trimmed back. Stories in animation are often a committee work. While there might be one or two main writer, scripts still get run past a script editor, get interpreted and sometimes changed on the fly by the director, and be approved by the producer possibly multiple times.

No, D.D.M. is right. It would be better if any such studio developed its own original stories, using Genus as an inspiration, but perhaps other sources too, thus allowing for greater creative and artistic freedom. Story adaptations could potentially happen, and maybe some artists could be persuaded to submit new original stories, but neither would be a main focus or even necessary.

I think an easier way to approach these kinds of projects would be to start very small before you start planning a whole web series. A good begging step would be to make a few animated shorts. If you are able to do that, then you can start working on a pilot or something. Then, if your pilot works out you can start getting into planning out all your episodes and patreons and stuff.
