Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: dismemberment -> dismemberment_(disambiguation)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #47425 dismemberment -> dismemberment_(disambiguation) has been rejected.

Reason: To invalidate dismemberment.
Considered aliasing to amputation, but other tags such as amputee, detachable, missing_limb & severed_limb made a disambiguation more appropriate.

EDIT: The tag alias dismemberment -> dismemberment_(disambiguation) (forum #298599) has been rejected by @Millcore.

Should this also change dismemberment_(disambiguation) to the invalid category, or is it not yet settled if disambiguation tags are going into the invalid category (topic #27477)?

What is the point of this disambiguation? To force people to have to use multiple search terms to find related concepts? I mean I'm sure that's not the intended goal, but it will be the inevitable result. Disambiguations should be for concepts where there are multiple unrelated concepts being used for a tag, not a bunch of related concepts grouped together.

I cannot alias it to invalid_tag because that is being phased out.
And dismemberment in itself seems to just be a blend of an amputee (person), amputation (action), & severed_limb (object).

Unless we can somehow link all of these tags together, I don't see the purpose in keeping the dismemberment tag.

dismemberment is the gory forced version of amputation primarily IMO. All of the tags you suggested have use cases (except severed maybe) that would not fit for someone looking for dismemberment and you would need to use all three to get all of the cases that might overlap with the concept. IMO disambiguation pages like this only serve to add a blockade to people finding what they want.

It is like a concept having a list of related tags, and someone comes along and wants to split the concept up into all of its related tags just because.

Perhaps I am overreacting, and it is getting late for me. I tend to be on the side of expanding concepts, and relations between them. These concept tags allow for a vehicle for these related terms to come together when otherwise they would have to be searched for individually. I don't like to see concept tags disambiguated unless there is a very good reason to do so.

I agree with TheVileOne.

Dismemberment is the act of violently removing a limb. It's not the same as simply missing a limb, and definitely differs from amputation.

Okay, I've went through the different tags and came up with this list (added removal of genitalia as an extra).

  • penectomy - gory removal of the penis and the resulting lack of having a penis
  • castration - gory process of removing the testicles (or "neutering").
    • eunuch - a character that has had their testicles removed (or "neutered").
  • nullo - both the penis and testicles removed.
    • nullification - gory process of removing both the penis and testicles.

Would it be better to implicate severed_limb to dismemberment, while having amputation as a standalone tag?
