From e621:rules
Abuse of Site Tools
This category includes:
- Reporting posts, threads, comments, or any other site media that is older than 6 months
Honestly, I generally avoid going any older than a month or two for anything (but that's just me). I figure if nobody's reported it within that long of a span of time, it probably doesn't matter that much.

Huh. I didn't know that.
Just curious, is there a hard cap on posts/forum comments as well?

Like the Husky said, after a month they're no longer reportable. Also, if the comments were posted 6 months ago or more, then it's actually against the rules to report anything that old and doing it anyways can get the reporter in trouble.
There is one important exception though: Any comment which contains a publicly visible malicious link (malware, virus, etc) can still be reported no matter how old it is. Sometimes site addresses get bought and used for something else which isn't as careful about keeping virus free, or a site that was fine years ago gets infected and the link becomes dangerous to click, etc. Stuff can happen. So if you ever find a link which leads to malware, trojans, computer viruses, etc etc then you're allowed to report it to let us know about it, and it won't matter how long ago it was posted. It's rare, but it's serious enough that we'd want to know about it if one did show up (so that we could remove it quickly to protect anyone else from getting infected).

@ furrypickle: Oh, well that's a good point that I'd never considered. Good to know!

If it's older than two weeks, I don't do anything to them, unless they're admitting to ban evading or being underage.
