Topic: e621 the Art Archive Library?

Posted under General

Am I one of the few people that view E621 as more of an Archive of artist's art in case
something bad happens to them or the platforms they're on and end up getting lost, deleted, corrupted, stolen, and etc.
Yeah, it's a good place to hang out too, in the forums. But I often feel like we're trying to preserve what we like onto this site by cataloging every furry artist's artwork so it is never lost to us.

I oftentimes feel like we are some kind of GREAT LIBRARY that will keep artwork since ancient times or something, and within it is just a bunch of furry smut.

Am I alone in this thought?
Cause oftentimes when I upload art, it's not picked at random, I upload a whole gallery of one artist before I move on the next.
I have the mentality that I am preserving their work onto here in case they, for whatever reason, lose their art (or the following listed above).
Lemme know your thoughts!

There are plenty of sites which archive content. What makes e621 great is the tags and the people who add them.

You're not alone in this thought. Though unfortunately some artists will exclusively post to here and the janitors will often knock them back for "not quality enough" uploads. Which saddens me because they could easily circumvent this by uploading somewhere else, adding a source link and not be e621 exclusive. This way potential viewers can still find the art even if the janitors delete the post. In cases of these, thank god for post / tag history.

It's because of the moderation on this site that I have to use other methods to find posts that e621 removes or prevents (like other booru's mirroring e621). Not saying it's a bad thing, it does give e621 a certain level of reputation.

e621 is pretty darn good at tagging though.

The staff even says frequently "uploading your own content to a booru is a good way to get your feelings hurt, use a gallery"

My inner "archivist" is one of my motivations for uploading here. It's pretty sad to think about how much art was virtually lost when Tumblr went puritan. It worries me when I see how many artists exclusively post their art on Twitter, because I think it's pretty likely that there'll be some "think of the children" mass panic sometime soon that will cause Twitter to do the same as Tumblr.

I know how you feel. A few months ago Weaver deleted some of his pictures (which I only just realized recently), and since his site is the only place where the majority of his pictures were contained (with only a percentage here on e621) I'm guessing that most, if not all of them, are lost forever.

I've noticed it along a lot of artist, and each time they do so it makes my heart sink. Apis deleted or blocked a lot of their old stuff, whygena switched focus and got rid of their old NSFW art, and I even remember when Keadonger temporarily had to block some of their art for a job application (I think was the reason, but luckily it didn't last long). It's gotten to the point where I've been saving choice pictures of artists I like, just in case they decide they no longer want to feature their art anymore; some pictures from Trout, and some pictures from Weaver (which I'm going to upload on here just to make sure another purge won't be as effective).
