Is it frowned upon to post under a forum topic for the sole purpose of bumping it to the front page? I'm not sure if it would be regarded as spammy or not, but I'd like to know if there's an acceptable way to get old questions answered.

Almost every single time, you're better off just creating an all-new thread while linking to the old thread(s) if relevant.

If it's solely for bumping, then don't bother. If you have something to add, then go ahead.
