Topic: [REJECTED] A Certain Fox Girl

The bulk update request #1095 has been rejected.

mass update fox's_sister_(kinokoningen) -> fox_lady_(kinokoningen)

Reason: The original text is きつねのお姉さん, which literally means "fox's sister", but お姉さん is used as a respectful way to address young women. no characters have been shown who are related to this one, so it's likely she isn't a sister at all, but rather the original text was just mistranslated. it makes more sense contextually for her to be called "fox lady".

Note that の is used to both mark possession (in the sense of "fox's sister") and for converting nouns into the genitive case (in the sense of "fox lady"). For example, the たくさん in たくさんの人 is genitive, not possessive. Thus, it's not strictly correct to say it means "fox's sister". With sufficient context, it could, but as far as we know she's an only child.

Would it perhaps be worth establishing a thread to do things like research character names and come up with appropriate tags? きつねのお姉さん doesn't have a real "name", as it were, and uploads with hermit_fox_byakudan existed years before a character tag existed, and there was another thread (topic #29580) not too long ago about identifying the names of a few other characters.

Shouldn't this be an alias instead of update then? Update is a one-time change, alias is continuous.

i tried to make it an alias, but it said the antecedent tag was already in use. i didn't know what to do in that situation

It means that an alias has already been requested. In this case, it's in topic #20100.
I don't know anything about this subject, so I can't tell if that one makes sense or not.
