Topic: Fanfic Advice

Posted under General

Evening everyone. I need some advise. I'm a fanfic writer and I've seen a picture someone made that has given me an idea for a story. Now, I tried to contact the artist to ask him if I could write the story and credit him and the picture for it, but he hasn't answered me.

Here's my question, should I write the fanfic and credit him anyway and hope I don't piss him off or wait until he answers me or forget the whole thing?

Write it regardless to at least get it out of your brain. People have been getting inspiration from pictures all the time. Indeed, I remember some writing exercises from school which directed students to a picture and told them to write a story around it. I've even written a few stories using pictures I've seen here and there that've inspired various characters.

Of course, just because you wrote the thing doesn't mean you have to publish it in its original form if you're not comfortable with doing so. You can change details here and there, and even revise the story quite a bit from the original inspiration. Even if you don't, there isn't much he can do about it and most likely he'll be flattered he provided inspiration.

But, whatever you decide to do with it, you'll have the story out of your head so you can fill it with other stories.
