Topic: Any good tips to help fall asleep?

Posted under Off Topic

- If you have a fan, turn it on. It's been
proven that the kinda humming sound soothes
the body, m8.

- Flip and fluff your pillow, A colder and
softer pillow makes all the difference, Dood.

Personal Notes: I fall asleep a whole lot faster
when something playing in the background
(low volume of course) Got a playlist for it.
Check it out sometime

- Yawn and stretch right before you get into bed,
I know it's cartoony but, the reason it's a trope
is that it works!

- While your eyes are close, relax. Take a deep
breath and relax, let your body melt into the
covers.

Sooner than you know it, it'll be tomorrow, Dood! ╹‿╹)

These would be my personal tips:

1) Don't lay too long on your bed if it's not for sleeping;
2) Don't eat or drink anything with caffeine prior sleep;
3) Don't eat too much prior sleeping;
4) Don't do demanding exercises prior sleeping;
5) Don't look at a clock when you have insomnia this will just make
your more stressed and frustrated;
6) Don't take naps;
7) Always go to sleep and wake up at the same schedule.
8) Breathe, literally, just try to focus on your breathing.
9) Do a relaxing activity 30 mins - 1 hour prior sleeping that's
not related to a screen (so... no tvs or smartphones!).

Hope this helps.

I find it easier to fall asleep wearing looser or less clothing, but covering up snug with the blanket. Some people have an easier time wearing their daily wear but not covering up with a blanket.

Find a comfortable position then close your eyes, steady and slow your breathing, take deep breaths to slow your heartrate. Relax parts of your body one-by-one, and sink into the bed. The hardest part is to not think, thinking keeps your brain active, which keeps you awake. Keeping the room cool also should help. If it’s too hot or too cold, you’ll be uncomfortable and fidgeting around

Totally didn’t get this from a sleeping article

I use melatonin gummies, works great.

I ended up getting some Diphenhydramine HCL. It’s better regulated than melatonin, so I trust it a bit more. I think it helped. I took it yesterday, and now i’m tired at 9pm today

Kinda groggy, but it’s a pleasant groggy, so i’m happy

For me, it's taking a stroll outside during the daytime. It helps with regulating circadian rhythms and melatonin production.
I don't trust medications much.
Therapeutic doses of DPH seem to be linked with dementia, but I don't think there's any evidence of causation. Still, this made me vary of it.
Melatonin supplements seem to interfere with melatonin receptor activity. If you get vivid dreams you're sacrificing your NREM sleep phase (deep sleep) in favor of the REM phase. It's also widely reported that melatonin supplementation interferes with endogenous melatonin production, but this doesn't seem to be true.

I hadn't heard about this until I read your comment, I will probably avoid taking it unless I have to. Why do drugs suck so much smh

im trying to wrap my head around the logic of sleeping patterns.
surely if you needed sleep you would be tired. Or is something else the matter?

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you not understand why it wouldn't be good for me to be falling asleep at 6am and waking up at 2pm? I have other things to do besides sleep all day

Pasted from The Independent newspaper website. A US Army sleep technique for sleeping in less than peaceful environments...

"Relax the muscles in your face, including tongue, jaw and the muscles around the eyes
Drop your shoulders as far down as they’ll go, followed by your upper and lower arm, one side at a time
Breathe out, relaxing your chest followed by your legs, starting from the thighs and working down
You should then spend 10 seconds trying to clear your mind before thinking about one of the three following images:
You’re lying in a canoe on a calm lake with nothing but a clear blue sky above you
You’re lying in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room
You say “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” to yourself over and over for about 10 "seconds.

1. Try taking a small walk around your home once you're ready for bed, preferably in the dark.
2. Keep water by your bed, preferably in a bottle that has a twist cap. Open ended bottles or cups require that you sit up to drink from them.
3. Commit to sleeping. Lay down, close your eyes, keep them closed, find the most comfortable position you can and stay in it, even if it isn't 100% perfect. Don't open your eyes for anything, don't look at your phone, don't even think about it even if you hear a text come in.
4. Chill out, literally, you will sleep better in a room that's slightly cool, enough to put on a blanket.
5. If you don't have a stuffed animal, then hold a spare pillow if you're struggling to find comfort for your arms. Occupying them with something often helps.

Hope any of these help.

I often fap before go to sleep, it help me to sleep better

For me, I’d need a doctor to literally come in and inject me with some kind of knockout drug. I can’t sleep worth a turtle’s green shit!

Nowadays, it’s 4 hours a Night. Every. Single. Night. I want to knock myself out!

I put on some white noise sounds on my AppleTV (works just as well on phone, laptop/computer or any audio player of choice).

I usually use something like rain, tv static, a rotating fan, etc.

Also I try not to look at any screens at least an hour before going to bed.
