Topic: I Want To Stop Hating Memes, Dood!

Hear Me Out Before You Post Your Memes!

Summed up, I REALLY don't like memes since I feel like they lack originality.
Like it's funny the first time but, the 146th time it begins to wear on ya,
ya know?

But It's something I REALLY want to get over since every one of them
I come across feels like a punch in a gut of pure 'Oh Not This Again'

I've tried exposure therapy, scrolling through my feeds, and downright
death glaring any that I find but- well... It was pretty much like this
Still hate 'em

I've tried avoiding them, I've also tried to avoid raindrops in a hurricane and
had about the same amount of success. (Not every site blacklist =‿=)

My only choice at this point is to start liking them but I really
don't know where to start, dood! Any advice?

I think exposure therapy is the opposite of what you want for memes. Memes get worse the more you see them.

I think the trick to enjoying memes is finding a genre you like. For example, I'm a fan of Doge memes, so I go on r/dogelore and find memes I like.

There's also a lot of reference memes, which can be pretty annoying. Imo, those are only funny if they are unexpected.

Then there's ironic memes, which can be funny in the "it's so bad it's good" kinda way.

Basically, just search until you find something that matches your sense of humor

When I hit the point of annoyance, I just skip on by and don't bother looking closely at it. It quite simply is not worth attempting to enjoy any of the other details if the meme is making you upset.

You know, a lot of your complaints seem to link to you feeling that you need to give things your attention.
Thinking about things is good, but sometimes you've gotta prioritise what you're thinking about.
Your attention is limited, memes are not. You will not win a war of attrition against memes.

the first thing you gotta realize about memes is that they are the DNA of the soul

Whoa, Feedback I've gotten back has been pretty stellar, Thanks Doods!

That's Just the thing, I've yet to find any that I think are funny after the first time, Dood.
The best way to put it is having a peep run-up to ya and
tell you the same joke day after day after day after day after-
It kills any humor it had for me and just comes off as annoying in the worst way.

I wanna stop this though, I wanna 'Get' how people can find them so hilarious in spite of
the repetition so I can stop feeling so tortured by these jokes, Dood!

This, This has been what I've been doing for the longest time but I feeling that I'm
missing out because of it. Not on the meme, Heck no! But those other details. I admire
the creativity in the packaging since every one of them is so unique. If the meme themselves
didn't feel like such a punch in the face for the time investment I think it could
really help me in future endeavors, Dood!

Solid points, I just really need to find that way to focus only on the packaging its self
art, Set up and creativity instead of the meme I would be using my attention more wisely, Dood!

God, I wish I could hate memes.

If you don't mind me asking, What do you like about them?
Who knows I may understand where your coming from and hate them a little less.

there's zero reason to make any effort here. you don't like them? good. do anything else at all. you'll be fine.

That's just the thing, It doesn't matter where I go
or what I do, Meme haunts every one of my Haunts.

Youtube: "Let's Goooooooooo" "Pog Pog Pog Pog" "When the When When when~"
Disabled comments but can't disabled the once in the video that comes up
outta the blue.

Twitter: Nothing but, Dummy thick meme & invincible or whatever the
hot topic of the week is from the peeps I thought would only post art.

Reddit: All of it, Dood =P

It's even spread to one of my favorite video games at the moment
Guilty Gear: Returning character Jack-O single-handed broke my feeds.

At this point, It's not about avoiding them since that's just impossible
(I've been trying for a couple of years now.)
but, finding a way to enjoy them or at least ignore them on a core level
so I can enjoy the packaging of them, Dood

I remember when memes were called image macros... and just jokes before that. I think the issue is that you see it as a "meme" rather than just something funny. What makes it a meme and not just some random mildly amusing thing? Is it how much it is reposted? Is it being used as a reaction? Is it a meme if I upload a video of myself vomiting glitter onto a potato? Is Millhouse a meme?

For me personally, What sets apart a joke from a meme is how much it is reposted.
It takes on a whole new flavor that's a lot more bitter. It's funny the first time
but everybody telling the same joke at the same time feels like is just...

I REALLY want to understand how peeps aren't just cool with them but think they're
awesome enough to build a culture around them, Dood.

You don't hate memes, you just hate worn-out jokes the same as anyone else. It's not the medium, it's the method. Anything will stop being funny if it's repeated enough, regardless of if it's a "meme" or something else, and I think your best bet is to just hang out somewhere that "fresh" mems are to be had, or extant ones are used sparingly. The problem with social media is that 90% of the people on it are that guy that thinks they're super original for, for example, making "in Soviet Russia" jokes to Slavs, or making the joke you've heard about your name ever since first interacting with English-speakers for the twelve quadrillionth goddamn time.

You make a very convincing point, Dood, Maybe Memes, and a worn-out joke aren't one and the same.
Though with how they've been presented for the longest time one feels like one implies the other e621 style.

Like a good joke is told and there's a mad stampede of 'That Guys' that think they're
reinventing the wheel whenever they do it. Though they aren't, their just trend-chasing,
Conforming to whatever the good joke use to be with only no originality. Bleeding any
humor out of it till it's nothing but a 'Dead Meme.'

Though like you said, Maybe I don't hate Meme's themselves but the culture around
them but, I truly want to understand that culture so I can look past the repetition
and see the packaging for what it is. The art, the effort the originality hidden
within the joke as sprint and appealing as used gum, Dood.

I really believe that there's something there worth looking at but
just can't get past the used rag of joke, ya know?

There's no culture, not any more than any other chucklefucks who think they're funnier than they are. Honestly, your best bet for "fresh" memes used to be /b/, might very well still be. The flow of memes typically starts at imageboards, if you want to try to get them while they're still fresh.

Even though /b/ kinda scares me that's some pretty good advice!
But if you don't mind me asking, How should I handle the memes
or I guess worn-out jokes I encounter anywhere else?

Getting them fresh is awesome and all but, I really wanna take back control
over my feeds and not feel so bullied by these things, Dood.

i love memes but i understand where yourr coming from.. especially if that meme sounds like it has no comedic merit. Like whats so funny about screaming "among us"? Why is that funny? Lemme just go scream fallout 76 out of nowhere and see if i get laughs.
