Topic: Are You Strict With Your Like/Favorites?

Posted under General

When you see a picture you think is great. Do you simply favorite it and move on or so you Upvote it and move on?
Or simply do you Like and Favorite it?

Are you strict with what gets Favorited? Like it follows criteria in order to be favorited above other images and if it meets a few of it but not all, you simply upvote it?

Or do you like to Upvote things that you like but only reserve Favorites for images that follow a specific genre you like in art?

I'm just curious and wanted to know. I personally Like/Favorite everything I think is pleasing to my eye.
Sometimes I just Upvote an image but don't favorite it because it didn't meet ALL my expectations.

I use different criteria for liking and favoriting.
I follow what the names suggest, I like things I like, and I favorite my favorite images.

In order for me to like something, it has to be well drawn and interesting enough to draw my attention. In addition, it has to stand out enough to make me think “I should like this”.

In order for me to favorite something it has to stand out to me as particularly good. Something that makes me feel a particularly strong emotion (happy, sad, horny), something that is especially weird (in a good way), something that is just really aesthetically pleasing to me, etc. Also I like every post I favorite.

It’s hard to give specific reasons why I like/ favorite things, but my brain always knows when I should

Btw, I like your profile pic :)

I tend to use favorites for things I want to see at random, I use upvotes for things that I think are really good but only really want to see again if I specifically check my upvotes.

I definitely upvote and move on, but my favorites are more exclusive. Not like I can have an infinite amount of them, might as well be picky.

Speaking generally

There was a time where I'd be super strict about this sort of thing. If a picture wasn't perfect and didn't meet certain requirements, it was out. After a while, I changed and it went to as long as there's something I really like about it
These days I take a more balanced approach. A picture doesn't have to be perfect.....but merely having an aspect I enjoy isn't necessarily enough either. This sort of goes out the window with websites that have folders of some sort. In that case, favourites is for the absolute best. Everything else can go in a designated folder.

All that applies to e621 specifically as well, though I'm a bit more lax with favourites here. Not super interested in throwing everything into a set plus the way I organize is different. I will say I didn't come to this site for SFW images, but I do like the fact that my favourites are almost entirely compromised of them. I'm sort of reluctant to upset that balance. Don't really use likes.

Updated

I give likes to posts that seem objectively good/high quality even if I personally aren't interested in them. Favourites are for things that are well above the average and that I personally really like. Basically posts that I might want to find again.

Favourites are images I never get tired of looking at. They are usually things I want to showcase on my profile. Likes are for perceived merit and usually end up going to posts that I consider underrated. I'm very stingy with both, equal parts deliberately and absent-mindedly.

I prefer to download pics that I enjoy. But my system for collecting porn is very complicated (well not really, but I don't think anyone wants me to get into detail about it here) and occasionally has long gaps where I'm not supposed to download anything. During these periods, I like to use favorites as a place to keep porn that I plan on downloading when I'm able. When I do, I remove it from my favorites to avoid clutter. Only problen with this system is that I only like to download porn when it arouses me in that moment, which is why my favorites are as cluttered as they are.
My criteria for what actually gets downloaded/favorited, I think, can be boiled down to 3 factors: the beleivability of the characters' actions, the novalness of the concept, and how aroused I am at the moment. If the media only rates high in one of these areas, or two but rates very low in one, I'll save it to my external drive, since it has more room and is more vulnerable to technical error. (Basically, I'll save it, but it's preservation is of lower priority) I used to keep these kinds of posts in my favorite, but realized it was unnecessary.

I only use likes to upvote posts that are getting downvoted into the negative for their subject matter just as a small way of trolling people who can't blacklist. I don't think I've ever downvoted a posts myself because I can't imagine taking anything posted here even that seriously.
Is there supposed to be a way to view your own likes? I haven't come acrossed it.

Yes. I don't get people with like 10 favourites. AT some point it is pointless as another list to look at lol

Conversely, I don't get people who have thousands and thousands and thousands of favorites. Y'all even doing anything with all of those?

Sometimes it’s nice to not have to search to find something you like and just search through your favorites

Pretty much. Especially with so much content out there, I'm bound to forget so having an archieve of things I like on hand is great way to rediscover stuff I might have forgotten.

lol idk what I'm doing with my favs T_T
I created a clutter that needs future fixing and I ended up making Galleries that are also cluttered.
I'm just a fucking GOBLIN!

For me, is very interesting what @TheLibertineYeen said above, for he has some kind of "system".

I think that many people that participate in this site dedicates a lot of time in ordering and structuring this image database in the most useful way ... and however, many of us look for art, use the upvote, favorite etc, in a much less than systematic way. At least in my case, that has been so for almost 10 years.

For many years, I used to simply download anything that I liked that eventually caught my interest, in a non-directed search. But then, I lost track of many of the useful information this site provides. For example the artist that made it, or the source of the art. That prevented me to search for more of that author - if someone does something you like, probably will have more of that available. Besides, intelligent artists, have also interesting personalities, and sometimes, I seen it, do more than that you will find in this site.

I have use the "favorite" option very sparingly. But I believe that it is a tool that could be used to improve the enjoyment and profit for the user of this site. I just have to seat for a while and think "how".

On this site, as well as other art sites, I essentially use my Favourites as a record of everything that I've liked enough to download to my computer. If I see that an image is in my Favourites, it stops me wasting time and space saving it a second time!

I use the favorites as a "personal archive" of sorts, so that I can browse the kind of content I like, I don't really overthink about what to favorite or not, I simply do so and move on, maybe later on I will check and see what I favorite and decide what to keep, it is also helps to find stuff that might have been deleted, but was favorited by me, then I can look up the source and add it to my collection. I tend to favorite a lot more than I upvote, and I mean, A LOT more.

I use the favourites to save stuff I like and downloaded. It also helps with the searches if a better version gets posted (I use "-fav:" to limit the search results when browsing). Not to mention that it's faster to use specific tags in combination with the favs to find interesting art faster.

Had to re-install Windows without the chance of making a back up, with my favourites I didn't need to go through all the pages full of irrelevant pictures to look for the ones I want to have again
