Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: serratus_anterior -> serratus

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #54451 serratus_anterior -> serratus has been approved.

Reason: Even though ‘serratus anterior’ is the proper name for the muscles, a shorter name (in this case ‘serratus’) would be more suitable for tagging purposes. To clarify, I’ll name a few examples of other muscle tags that are used on e621:

  • Pecs have a similar scenario here. The full name is the ‘pectoralis major’ muscles. Instead of using the full name, we use a shorter tag to make it simpler for people to search posts featuring pecs.
  • The same goes for abs. The full name is the ‘rectus abdominis’ muscles. We instead use ‘abs’ for a much simpler search.
  • Obliques are actually named the ‘abdominal external oblique’ muscles. That would be way too long for a tag.

The same can go for all other muscles.

A counter argument for this could be that the serratus tag can also refer to the ‘serratus posterior’ muscles. However, those muscles are not so prominent, since they are located behind the ‘latissimus dorsi’ muscles (a back muscle).

One minor argument is that the serratus tag is used more frequently (over 1k posts) than the serratus anterior tag (just under 300 posts).
