Is grasping and understanding the same thing?
Like I just know Cowboys and Aliens is such a good combo
But truly grasping what makes it a good combo is something I do not understand.
You see Aliens as Cowboys, it just compliments it, like complementary colors or food.

But why is it so good?
why is seeing an Alien Cowboy just so satisfying?
What do you guys think of Cowboy Aliens?
How do you feel about them? Any movie nostalgia? wish there was more?

Just as an atheistic, I think aliens and cowboys work well together because the contrast between the two highlights the cool aspects of both. The fantastical technology and mystery of the aliens vs the down to earth badassery of the cowboys. In addition, they are both associated with the American Midwest, so it makes sense to put them together.

I've never considered alien cowboys before, but after looking at those pictures, I'm onboard.

In terms of movie nostalgia, I remember enjoying a movie a few years ago about a cowboy who is transported to an alien planet and has to help fight in an alien war or something. Despite liking it, I don't really remember it that well, but a google search suggests it could of been John Carter

Updated

both are associated with the idea of an unexplored frontier with mysteries and wealth still to be gained, plus a distance from developed "civilised" society leaving room for old-fashioned grit and treachery

Because Alien Cowboys are cool and we should talk about it more.
I think it'd be really cool to see from a perspective of aliens who come to the more southwestern part of the US
And see how they think about the culture. I wonder if they would adopt the southern accent.

They remind me of foreigners who'd think western stereotypes are all about Cowboys

I would like to see something relating to the Fermi paradox or more specifically the zoo hypothesis.

It raises the question: Why would an advanced space-fairing alien race be interested in a less technologically advanced civilization (i.e., 19th century United States) to the point they would mingle around and adopt their culture? Wouldn't that be equivalent to humans going to live with apes in the jungle? What if we are just like zoo or safari animals to them, and they get awe and wonder at how we play around with tiny tubes filled with explosives that throws metal at one another?

I reality, I want to start from the end...

The Western / Cowboy genere was so popular not only in the USA, but abroad, that even internationalized. Like in the 50s - 70s, a lot (and I mean a lot) of countries made or try to make their own Cowboy / Western movies... particular notable examples, Italy and Communist Germany

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahwJF5AcsGA ("Trinity" 1970 - Poker scene).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5syeXOrTks ("DDR & Indianer" - Documental).

(... but Cowboys in Europe had a firm foothold in literature from the beginning of XX Century, with authors like Karl May).

So the Western / Cowboy genere, is a Universe so well known arround the World, inmmediatly indentifiable that you can try to combine it with othe fiction... like dinosaurs...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIDJ-Y-_Dxs ("The Valley of Gwangi", 1969)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJbWoCC4EXo ("Cowboys vs Dinosaurs", 2015)....

And of course, Space and Aliens...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUfJuOp7Dck ("BraveStarr", 80s)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH7KZD5vGBY ("Cowboys & Aliens", 2011).

In fact, if I tried to list here all the "Western & Cowboys adventures in Space" fiction, or music, I will not end this post today.

So I guess, a new perspective, of Aliens that are themselves Cowboys, had to be tried at least once, and if the story is good, even with success.

I've been having a growing fascination of Aliens lately. Other than my obseesion with shortstacks,
I've been having a growing interest for Roswell Grey aliens.
I think I'll probably start attempting to draw alien cowboys myself
