How did all of you choose your fursonas? This tends to be a good conversation starter... Also I have yet to really develop mine as I tend to think I'm being biased about myself lol sorry I can't contribute

Studied foxes and wolves CONSTANTLY.
So, besides my avatar, my fursona is a hybrid of the two.

When I was younger I read many things about wolves, but now I forget them all =( they are pretty cool animals lol

If somebody can't deal with that, I tell them my fursona is a multi-breasted herm foxtaur with rainbow fur and wings.

I am somewhat bothered by the terms "find" and "discover" in this context...

I'm a dog, an ibizan hound to be specific. I've always preferred to see my character as domestic as opposed to a wilder canine. Domestic dogs fit closer along with my personality and how I go about things I guess.

I then narrowed it down to my favorite types of dogs and what fits me the closest . Sighthounds tend to be energetic and springy while somehow still being quiet couch potatoes haha Their body type and temperament/attitude fit me pretty snug so the only thing left after that was to choose which one was aesthetically my favorite breed, and ibizan hound was it. :)

My fursona is human and looks remarkably like me. Maybe the hair would be kept a bit better.
It also wasn't that hard to determine my fursona, that bitch follows me around constantly and tends to stare at me in all mirrors I see.

But seriously, I can't grasp why people need a fursona or why it matters if some have one or not.
Maybe I'm just too pragmatic to see the charm of having one.

Honestly when I was a little girl around 10 or so I had a reoccuring dream that lasted 3 nights and picked up right from where I left off the night before, and in this 3 night dream I was a feral wolf and in a pack, and I got to experience pack life, hunt, communicate, protect... Everything. It was truly amazing. Never have I felt such a sense of belonging...

Seeing as im human obviously I combined the dream and myself irl and voila!

nice story, that sounds really interesting, a continuous dream over three days. Are you like wolfXVIII and was really interested in wolves from a young age, let's face it they are pretty cool animals. It's also kinda funny that I've had dreams like that too, nothing that spanned over three days though lol.

like you i have yet to develop any type of fursona but if i would pick it would be a lion because i'm a leo and they are my favorite animal and i would still choose lionmane because i'm a leo with long brown hair

I have always felt like the exemplar of human, but I have thought about a cat fursona. A normal housecat; seems like a good representation of my personality.

I discovered the community about 4 years ago (I guess you could say I had a strict father and I wasn't allowed online by myself until I turned 18).

After a year, I had already found Black-rat and many others on Transfur.com. So in January 2009 I created a FA and DA accounts (both of which I didn't really get into until that September). Anyway, I discovered I really liked Black-rat's work and sometime around Thanksgiving 2010, he announced he *may* stop doing commissions (we know this isn't the case now) and I jumped on the chance to get one.

I had already had this idea for a Philadelphia Eagle transformation comic, based on a shirt I had purchased not that long ago. Black-rat finished my three-page comic in about a month and I posted it to my pages, but I did not consider it a "fursona" at the time. That came sometime the next year, when I decided that, yes, I wanted the bald eagle to be my fursona. I like the team, I like the bird, it all fits.

A bit long, but that's basically my foray into the furry community.
