create implication stars_and_stripes (1) -> flag (4481)
create implication canadian_flag (271) -> flag (4481)
create implication russian_flag (124) -> flag (4481)
create implication australian_flag (113) -> flag (4481)
create implication union_jack (391) -> flag (4481)
create implication french_flag (100) -> flag (4481)
create implication chinese_flag (31) -> flag (4481)
create implication texas_flag (46) -> flag (4481)
create implication french_flag (100) -> flag (4481)
create implication confederate_flag (98) -> flag (4481)
create implication mexican_flag (169) -> flag (4481)
create implication swedish_flag (60) -> flag (4481)
create implication german_flag (136) -> flag (4481)

Reason: Flag is an umbrella that includes the specific flags.

swedish_flag should be spelled with only one "e". +1 once fixed.

EDIT: Wait, no. At least stars_and_stripes is used for things other than flags. I haven't checked the others yet. post #2886233
EDIT2: Same issue with all the other flags, not just stars_and_stripes.

Updated

A flag_print_bikini should not be tagged with <country>_flag, because flag print is not a flag.
usa_flag and american_flag should be unaliased from stars_and_stripes, then usa_flag aliased to american_flag and that can imply flag.

That works for stars_and_stripes vs. american_flag, but other flags have the same issue. This is tagged swedish_flag, for example post #2530942. If we want to have the *_flag tags be strictly for actual flags, we would need to create new tags like swedish_flag_print, canadian_flag_print, and so on. stars_and_stripes and american_flag_print would need to be aliased together, all the *_flag_print tags and flag_print_bikini would imply flag_print, and all the *_flag tags would imply flag. The current *_flag posts would need to be manually cleaned up based on whether it's an actual flag or just the flag print.

...but I'm not sure there's much benefit to doing all this work over just keeping things how they currently are.

That's not a bad idea in theory.
But in practice, people will keep tagging flag print clothing as <country>_flag. Plus, it would be better for searchability to keep all posts featuring flag patterns under one tag.

But yes, that would mean that implying *_flag -> flag would be incorrect.

The bulk update request #3571 is active.

create alias canada_flag (1) -> canadian_flag (271)

Reason: Same thing.
canada_flag : with 3 posts (and no wiki)
canadian flag with 191 posts and a wiki.

(edit: posting in this thread as it seems to be the main thread for flag talk)

EDIT: The bulk update request #3571 (forum #350165) has been approved by @slyroon.
