Topic: Aspect ratio is close, but not exact

Posted under General

I'd say no. I wouldn't even bother to explicitly tag an aspect ratio, since there's a bot that automatically adds one to uploads.

I seem to remember seeing a user who got banned for putting aspect ratio tags on nearly correct images, though I can't find the record. So vote no.

Edit: As DubsTheFox says, it was user #319419. As bitWolfy says, they were told to stop and didn't.

I don't think someone tagging aspect ratios incorrectly would get banned, unless they were told to stop and they didn't.
But yes, those tags are for exact ratios only. There's a ratio metatag for non-exact matches – see the cheatsheet for more info.

I'd like to ask you about it because just saw Feedback related to it, and I am curious.
Then, I should make decisions as follows? :

  • #1:There'd be no problem in not bothering to tag ratio. Because Even if strange(?) ratio Does or does Not match the already existing Tags (for particular exact ratio), ratio metatag search is still valid, like ratio:1.78.
  • #2:I am pretty sure "16:9" and "9:16" are two different things. That's self-evident. Is that correct? If so, I will follow it.

Out of curiosity, does the bot have a specific list of ratios that it searches for, or is it just whatever ratio tag is meta?

There's a list of what the bot tags on Pup's profile.

1. Yes.
2. Those are different things, of course. 16:9 is landscape, and 9:16 is portrait:

Hm, I was right, it was exactly what I had imagined. But it's still good to hear things, I think. Thank you
