Topic: New "mentions" button is a bit messy for me...

Posted under General

So I just noticed this new "mentions" button in my profile page, and when I clicked on it, it seems to be a little... messy. Every comment that contains the word "refresh" (which is my current username) appeared there. So, is this a problem for everyone else that has a common word for their username, or is it just me?

Yeah, pretty much.

It's the same link as "Search for myself in comments" on https://e621.net/users/home (the Account link at the top of every page), so it's not peculiar to this new button.

IIRC, if your name contains spaces/underscores, it'll also match comments where each word/token occurs somewhere in the text (regardless of whether they appear in the specific arrangement that is your name).

Unsurprisingly, I have not had this particular problem.

If mentions are supposed to find comments in which user has been quoted, then instead of just the username the search should rather look for text that both identifies the user and is characteristic for quotes.
"refresh":/user/show/1020322 said: example text
Given the quote syntax I think the best option would be to search for /user/show/1020322. It unambiguously identifies the user and because it is the link to the profile, it will always indicate a mention. Another advantage of this is that it uses the user ID which is constant and immutable to the user as opposed to the username that can always be changed.

Just look how well this search works for mentions of ReFresh: https://e621.net/comments?group_by=comment&search%5Bbody_matches%5D=/user/show/1020322
It doesn't show anything but quotes and even found the ones with the previous username of ReFresh :)

You are basically fucked if you have a bad string as your username.

Searching by user ID is a good idea. It would leave out @s which may be a problem.
