Topic: Tag alias: evelynn -> evelyn_(disambiguation)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #56947 evelynn -> evelyn_(disambiguation) has been approved.

Reason: evelyn_(disambiguation) acts as the disambiguation page for both the spellings "evelyn" and "evelynn". The disambiguation page could be split between the two spellings if required.

It states on evelynn that this is "Evelynn - the Widowmaker [...] League of Legends Character", however there is already the more popular evelynn_(lol) that should be used instead.

I do not think "evelynn" should be aliased into "evelynn_(lol)", because there are other characters, such as evelynn_(stargazer), which could also be linked from "evelyn_(disambiguation)" instead.

EDIT: The tag alias evelynn -> evelyn_(disambiguation) (forum #330612) has been approved by @bitWolfy.

my biggest annoyance on tagging is when people don't use parentheses to imply who the character belongs to

That is true. It would be a lot of work for these single use tags, but we can look at the sources to figure out who owns each character. evelyn_hastings, the source is dead, and I can't find it on the Wayback Machine. evelyn_kuranyi, the source says it was designed for cryptozoo. evelyn_lacine seems to be owned by fauxlacine based on this source . evelyn_rider, the sources of the two greyscale images says it's owned by videogame30.

I have myself ensured that all my character tags have my name attached, even though at least one of them have a unique name, in case another character is made with the same name in the future. I also like the consistency.

You should only add the owner prefix suffix if it's a generic name. If a name is unique and unlikely to clash with another character, it should not have an owner prefix suffix. Owner information can instead go in the character's wiki page.

e621 does not use owner prefixes, but it does use owner suffixes. There's nothing wrong with adding them now that the tag is manageable. The unique of today is the generic of tomorrow.

I prefer the consistency, plus it doesn't hurt. Just searching for the name still brings up the autocomplete including the owner. Of the six named characters, only two have names that aren't in conflict.

I'd argue the owner or franchise should always be included, otherwise you'll end up with a lot of old and ambiguous tagging in the future, featuring characters with dead links. But this isn't the place for such discussion.
