why the fuck are emoji being used as tags now

Tumblr, YouTube, and Facebook had a massive spillage and it flooded sites like DA, FA, Ink, and et cetera. It was even here, in the comments of E621... But they didn't use them as tags. we must be patient 0.

Is typing "eggplant" really so hard that people need to use an emoji instead?

Windows 10 actually updated so that all unicode emojis look graphical now.

Also on mobile it has been a thing for long time now, I feel old for still thinking I used to use :-) on nokia phone.

Some of us don't use Windows 10 or mobile, and they show up as hex boxes.

To me, πŸ† shows up as [01F346].

I use Windows 10 and it still shows up as a box with nothing in it. I don't get it, personally. It doesn't even qualify as a novelty. It's a grandparent saying "groovy" to appeal to children, if anything.

Regardless, do we REALLY need to do this? Emoji should be discouraged from being used as tags because they aren't words nor are they meaningful punctuation

And i just spotted a problem with using emojis in forum posts. Quoting them chops off the first byte, changing πŸ† [01F346] to  [F346].
