Topic: One-word tags that have no meaning by themselves and should be removed

I'll start: penile

Penile what? There are several valid related tags, like penile_masturbation, penile_penetration, etc. However, without a suffix or modifier, the tag "penile" adds zero value or additional context to a post. I suggest it be deleted from all posts.

Here's another one: deep

Again, by itself this one-word adjective is pretty damn useless. That's why it's no longer a valid tag without a suffix. Search results for "deep": 0 results. Let's do the same with other nonsense tags.

Penile relates to any activity that involves a penis, which can also include activities that do not have the penis being directly visible.
On the other hand, penis relates to the organ itself and is only tagged when it is directly visible in the post.

The tag deep does not serve a definite purpose and is therefore already invalid. However, there are plenty of one-word tags that do serve a purpose.
I'd suggest that you start reading their wikis first before suggesting to invalidate them.

Hey, I'm really impressed you can read a dictionary -- so can I. Yes, the word "penile" is in there. That's not a rebuttal to my assertion.

Please describe to me a scenario where you would search for just the word "penile" (with no suffix, e.g. "penile_penetration"). What other tags would you include in that search? What sort of image would that help you find? What is the value of the penile tag?

I'm genuinely curious what the use case is for the un-suffixed "penile" tag. None of the replies thus far have demonstrated any tangible benefits.

There is no need for passive aggressiveness.

"penile" is an umbrella tag meant to cover related concepts. It is not supposed to be added manually, but automatically added by other more specific tags. It is convenient for people who want to search for any of those related concepts with no special preference.

The tag exists for the benefit of people who want to use it. You are not obligated to interact with it in any way, and its existence does not detract from your e621 browsing experience.

When I want to see any activities that involved using a penis?

If I do not want to see anything related to the penis or penile-related activities, I can also add both of these tags into my blacklist without having to insert every single penile_* tag out there.

Likewise, vaginal also exists for people who want to look at any activity involving a vagina.

There is at least one user I've observed going around adding just the tag "penile" to posts (in cases where "penis" is already tagged and visible in the art!). I can't figure out what that user was trying to accomplish.

I am obliged to interact with the tag with my eyes when I read the list of tags on a post. My goal here was to determine whether the tag's existence was justified. Tags that don't serve any conceivable purpose detract from my e621 browsing experience. However, the post below you, by Wolfgang, offers a reasonable explanation for a scenario where one might want to search for "penile." I'll accept it. Thanks, Wolfgang, and thanks to everyone else that contributed positively to this thread.

if someone is invalidly adding a tag you should report them. As a penis merely being visible isn't a valid reason for the tag addition.

It is worth noting that penile =/= penis. Penile should only be tagged for posts where there is activity that involves using the penis, not by the presence of the penis itself.
Say a character is just standing there with an erect penis and not interacting with it whatsoever, then it should not be tagged with penile.

If a user is deliberately mistagging posts with penile just because it has a penis in it, then please report them for tagging abuse so that the moderators may look into it.
