Topic: I accidentially reported someone, is there a way to undo it?

Posted under General

I wasn't completely paying attention to the text around me, and I very rarely reply to comments on this website so taking me to another page to type the comment to a reply out didn't strike me as out of place as there are other sites I know as well as forums I grew up with which worked the same way. I was surprised when I hit submit that it said "Complaint submitted" or something like that and now I feel bad, I was just trying to send a friendly reply. I looked for a way to cancel it to take it back but couldn't find one, and I'm not sure what to do now. I guess I should have looked more carefully, both words start with "Rep" and I just wasn't looking closely enough and feel terrible for it.

It happens pretty commonly, the admin reviewing the ticket will probably know what went wrong and just close the ticket when they see it.

Is it this one by any chance?
It happens more often than you'd think, but every ticket gets looked at by an admin so nobody gets in trouble over this kind of accidental report (unless you make a habit of hitting the wrong button!)

I think if they change "Report" to "Flag" and have a red flag icon next to this this would happen a lot less often, the words Reply and Report when you just want to get right to commenting are too similar at a glance, but if it was Flag I would definately notice from the first letter and the red flag icon contrasting with the usual blue and white of the website that it was the wrong button. Even without the Flag icon, there's no way to mistake "Flag" for "Reply", it's almost impossible to make that mistake really, and most websites I know of have what I just mentioned; either a flag icon or it saying "flag", sometimes both, and since it's a lot more obvious at a glance that's probably the reason for that design, maybe this site could make that update too?

They seriously to move that report button somewhere else.

On your custom css in your profile:

div.content-menu li:nth-child(2) {
    float: right;
}

but it feels cursed

I think a problem with this is that most users aren't going to realise it's a problem until they've already submitted a reply as a report, and so this is a fix only for those with prior awareness they're likely to slap the wrong hyperlinkhyperbutton??

There is no way to undo it, they are going to be permanently banned now and it is all your fault.

Weird, but reporting opens a new page, while replying is opening up a box in the same page. How is it That common?
