Topic: Artist nuked all their stuff, should I be penalized for that?

Posted under General

~50% of my deleted uploads come from artist taking down all their arts (takedown #10833), can something be done about this? Besides slugging it through the upload limit.

You can DM an admin to adjust your upload limit for you. Getting walloped unexpectedly by a big Takedown does happen on occasion, and they're generally okay with manually fixing this when necessary.

Egads, am I slow.

You should ask the Artists before uploading, to reduce the risk of a takedown.

Judging by the provided reason, that wouldn't have helped in this case.

Artist can give permission only to remove it later.

It definitely does considering 90% of my edit:deleted uploads are from an artist that removed their content because no on ever asked them to upload. Trials by fire on learning to ask permissions.

To be fair, in regards to the OP's question, if they had (a) not asked for permissions and (b) just assumed that it is okay to repost the artist's artworks since they already exist here, then it is entirely within their fault for not checking first.
Most of the time, takedowns come from artists who had discovered that their works were reposted en-mass without even going through them for permissions first.

On the other hand, there can also be cases where an artist revokes/changes their mind on having their work on the site, which has happened to me before on more than one occasion.
No way you can avoid that, so it would be reasonable to request from an admin to have your upload limit restored if it severely hampers your ability to post. Otherwise, tough through it and regain your limit the usual way.

Their current upload limit is 4 posts. Bit rough to just tough through.

this reminds me that i have never asked kyra kupetsky (or buzzfeed, who i think owns chikn nuggit) permission to upload chikn nuggint on here, and at this point i'm too afraid to ask

Well, the first person I properly asked to archive content of I didn't consider doing so until I was like 30 uploads in. Asked anyways, telling them I already started to share their content but would like permission to do so going forward, it's been 4 years since then and I still talk to them this day.

From the looks of things, was that takedown even valid? It looks from the twitter link that that individual isnt even the artist in question.

Or it can end with a critical failure for me in one instance, happened many years ago just as I was getting into things. Posted a total number of 1 artwork before considering asking for permissions from them.

Artist totally freaked out, went on a rant about how it is totally not okay to post their stuff and how they would "press charges", made a public journal about it to indirectly chastise me, and blocked me before I could even get a word in. Had their boyfriend message me as well saying how upset they were and that I should give an apology, which I couldn't anyways since I was blocked.

Needless to say, I started asking everybody for permissions from that point on.

That's why I also tell them how to remove content if it bugs them. My opening statements will give reasons why I've posted content they make already, (Usually BVAS related if I do) as well as a preempted apology for jumping the gun while further asking for posting permissions going forward. Heck, asking for perms has even gotten an artist to remove themselves from the DNP list.

Why does the source for that takedown request lead to someone who says "I'm not the real one"

I didn't ask the first artist. I was going through his twitter and inkbunny gallery. I feel stupid to let me overcome by my anxiety. I think I'll tell him some day, and be reliefed, or I'll get my well earned -1000 punishment.

Uff... That's exaggerated...

I didn't ask the first person either, that's bascially how I got 800 some odd deletions. Though in their defense I think they planned to monetized their old tumblr content after it was nuked because of it being nsfw. and the e621 archive of it was hindering that fact. On top of the fact, that ya no one ever asked them for permission to post.

That's how most of my deletions happened as well. I always wondered if deletions and your overall upload limit count against promotions here like they do at danbooru?

Not usually. Deletion/takedown reasons are considered, not just bare metrics, unless something has changed in the past couple years.

It is more impressive the better the ratio is though

The account is newer than the takedown. I'd assume the artist deactivated and someone else took the tag and therefore URL.
